Using white towels at home birth?

1905 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  faeriewisp
I want to buy some extra towels for the birth since I only have a couple and I perfer white towels with my bathroom and I would like to be able to use them after the birth. Would I be able to easily get the blood out of them after? Or should I just invest in some cheap towels for the birth and throw away after?

H2O2 works wonders of blood from birth.

Also a good soak in HOT water with a good quality oxygen bleach will take care of all blood stains. I use it on my white panties and they are white, no signs of overflow. Doing this method you dont have to worry about pretreatment or getting to the stains right away.

Are you thinking of going unassisted? If so to save yourself work, go with the cheap towels so you don't have to worry about cleaning them.

I have all white towels too, and didn't have any trouble getting the blood out. I put some hydrogen peroxide in the wash, but don't know if it was even necessary, as we did a wash not very long after the birth. Oxyclean would probably work great too!
i was given a bunch of white towels for the birth which i intended to be throw aways or rags but my mom took the towels home with her and they washed out fine.i know my mom doesn't use anything but tide and bleach so i bet it won't be a problem.and now we have quite a few extra towels!
I go with cheapo white towels, as long as you can get them in the wash ASAP

Dh didnt and they are permently stained *insert irked at hubby smilie*
I truly love my Dollar General towels. They are thin but absorbant, don't have that weird synthetic feeling that just rubs the water around instead of soaking it up. And they were cheeeeap. I think sun would help with whitening, too.
I got towels for my last birth at the thrift store, because they were cheap and SO SOFT from wear. They were also beautiful -- old-fashioned with some embroidery.

Soft was important to me for baby because it was a water birth and there wasn't much blood.
