The thread in the homebirth forum got me thinking--I should post this web address here for Utah families interested in homebirth.<br><br>
Right now, Utah is in an all-too-common situation--the right to birth at home is guaranteed by law to parents, but direct entry midwifery which has been unlegislated in the past is slowly moving into the realm of illegal through "minor" additions to the laws regarding the practice of medicine. Most of what direct midwives do, and have always done, can now be construed as "practicing medicine without a license."<br><br>
We're working on a bill that would make midwifery clearly legal for all direct entry midwives and allow for voluntary certification for those midwives who want to carry medications like oxygen, pitocin and locals for suturing.<br><br>
