My family will be on Kauai from Dec 5-Dec 18. We're staying in Poipu. I haven't been to Kauai in a very long time, so I don't remember much. Do any of you have any suggestions of cool things that we shouldn't miss? Our kids are 18 mo and 3.

We're so excited -- we're coming from Alaska where it's 20 degrees....

TIA!!

I wish I did - I have not been in 20 years.

For my DD who is 3 time spent sitting in the water at the beach is priceless - a bucket or shovel maybe, but sitting there getting sand in your pants - priceless. Every new wave elicits a giggle and she just loves it.

Of course right now it's raining like crazy so you might want to bring rain ponchos - especially on Kauai!

IF the SuperFerry Starts Up you could come to Oahu and I've got good suggestions here

The beach, yes, definitely. Can't wait! Thanks for the reply! I'll look for others if anyone is on Kauai!

Hope you had a great vacation AugustineM.

We're travelling to Kauai next month, also staying in Poipu.

It is for "President's Club" for my husband's work. No kids allowed, but as my 14 month old is 'still' nursing he is allowed.

Therefore I need to find babysitters for a couple of events. I am sure that the hotel can help organize this, but as they will charge an agency fee to it will be expensive.

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Utahfeminist --
We had a great time on Kauai. It is so beautiful. I've been there about a dozen times over my lifetime and I would move there if I could. Someday... someday.

As far as babysitters, we actually hired a babysitter for our last night there. For the lfie of me I can't remember her name. The way we found here was, my husband went to the toy store in Poipu shopping center (it has Roy's and Poipu Burgers in it -- it's just across from the road to poipu beach) and there was a woman's card posted in there for babysitting services. We called her, she was busy, so we called someone she referred. She has like 20 years experience and was very nice. Not too expensive, either... I think it was 17$ for two hours for our two kids. So, definitely ask in kid's shops. A LOT of people there do that for extra income because there are so many visitors!

GL! And feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I'd go get the family some veggie dogs from Puka Dog if I were there:
