We are in the mist of getting all the paper work done. So I just handed in my paper work and know I am nervous because Im not sure if they are going to ask me about my kids Vac.
Another thing, we make good money, and are Self Employed, But about a yr. ago my son got hurt and went to the ER and well that was a HUGE bill that we just did have an extra 1,500 Dollars laying around so I went and got my kids on Hoosier Health Wise, and they payed that bill and that was all good, But We have never used they for anything else I have my own Doc. (Nautral) doc that sees my kids so I really only have it for emergencys. But would that stop them from use being Foster parents.
Anyways I am Worrying over this for nothing I am sure.
Ok I just need Encouragment..
Thanks

I don't know the rules in Indiana but you might want to post on the message boards at fosterparents.com. I'm sure there's someone there who lives in Indiana.

Also, I bet the licensing regs (and possibly forms) may be available on your state's website. Ours are. When you take a look at the medical forms that you will have to have filled out for your kids (and yourself) there may be a section that asks about vaccinations. NC doesn't ask about bio children but of course all foster kids need to vaccinated (barring unusual circumstances.)

You can get any doctor to fill out the medical forms. You don't have to have an ongoing relationship with them. And as long as you can pay your bills now, the past issues shouldn't matter. Remember, they want to license people.

Good luck!

Is that a "state" health care plan (we have something called MIChild here, basically medicaid for working parents)....no that should not at all keep you from being a foster OR adoptive parent (i know here they encourage it)....outstanding bills arent a problem either as long as you can pay your monthly upkeep (rent, food, etc)

I dont know about indiana, but here in MI, your bio kids are not required to be vaxed, although they DO use a standard form that does have a vax section on it, my doc just wrote "no vaccinations due to parental choice" and it was fine (i live in a very no vax-friendly state though)....if indiana has a "vaccine information"/anti-vax group (might find info online) you might want to talk to them, and ask, they should be able to tell you state regs, because your agency may claim you need something you dont need (like, my previous agency told me i couldnt HS pre-adoptive kids, turns out that wasnt true)...and yes post over on fosterparents.com, though be forewarned i posted either there or at adoption.com in a thread where everyone was claiming your kids SHOULD be vaxed because they could catch "so many things" from foster kids.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you are saying that your children do not have health insurance at all. We had to prove that our children are covered before our home study could be completed and approved.

NC doesn't require foster or adoptive families to have health insurance. Why would they? What if you were able to pay your medical bills outright? My kids both have Medicaid but I don't have insurance right now. I will definitely get it back but it's not feasible right now.

She said her kids have Hoosier Health Wise, she then said this is basically Medicaid. So they do have health insurance. My children currently are uninsured, but i plan on getting them back on MIChild (state health plan) when i get my youngest's SS card in the mail. We rarely go to the doctor anyway. I,myself, have not had medical insurance for years, which i'm sure is the situation for ALOT of people in this country.

Why would your agency require your children to have health insurance to foster state children who DO have health insurance?! That makes no sense to me. If someone chooses to pay out of pocket for medical bills, or does not qualify for health insurance, or doesnt meet the income requirements for state health insurance but can't afford private insurance....then they cant foster?! I would love to hear your agency's rationalizaton for that.

Yeah, they were like "but foster kids can come with lice and colds and all sorts of things!" and my response was basically "and the polio vax will protect my kids from those things...how? Or the MMR? or the chicken pox vax??" its not like there is an anti-lice vax?!

Here, all household members were required to get the TB titer test...i'm not sure exactly what is in that thing, but i went ahead and got it (my son was 9 or 10 at the time and i wasnt really worried about him being injected with stuff at that point)....dont know if i could have fought it, though.

I go with the "Don't ask, don't tell" approach. No one ever asked if we have health insurance, or if my kids are vaxed. They did ask for a doctor to fill out a form that said I was healthy enough to parent. I don't remember them asking anything health-wise about my kids at all. If they had, I would never have been certified. Believe me.

Wow my Post really opened stuff up. Sorry I have just been away for awhile. so to answer some Questions, Yes we have Midicade, the children do. Me and my husband make to much to get it ourself.
Then Ya kidsdo bring that stuff into our house but aren't they the ones with the Vax so if that is the case my kids would be safe from that stuff because if they have the Vax they are not Carrying it!!! (Think Smart Health providers)
Third, If I had to have my kids tested for TB then I would ask for a Chest Xray before I insert stuff in there Body.. For sure. It seems like Every agancy is diffrent in every state. We start out CPR and First aid on Sat 25th then may 2nd. 16th, and 30th will be our Foster classes.. Ya then the county said we can move forward from there with the Homestudy. Just keep us in your thought I just want everything to go smooth..
Thanks for all the Conversation I had fun readying it!!!
