I was watching CBC yesterday (Canadian) and they had a report about a study that showed there was some link between vaccinations (didn't say which) and autism. They were speaking to one family with a daughter who said that after her 18 month shots she got really sick. Later was diagnosed with autism. Apparently the vax activated something that was dormant in her body.

I also read an article in my gender and disability class that was talking about all the bad effects from vax over history.

Does anyone have a good resource on not vaccinating? How do you enroll you child in school/activities without vaccinations?

There was child here in the USA that just won a court case that vaccines caused her autism. Every state has an exemption so you don't need to vax, just sign a paper for school. Check out the vaccine forums here, they are a fantastic resource.

Autism is, of course, serious but its the least of my worries when it comes to vaccinating. Vaccines are linked to so many other HORRIBLE things. Please read up in the vaccination forum here. I'm not sure how Canada is but in the US they give newborn babies a Hep B shot before they leave the hospital, so I would recommend declining until you can do your research. You can always vaccinate but you can't UNvaccinate. Good luck!

There is a vax forum here - I would recommend you check it out. We are refusing all vax and the vit k shot. Autism is the least of the worries....here is a partial list of the additives in vax:

1. Aluminum - a known cause of Alzheimers and a carcinogen
2. Antibiotics - overuse has been known to cause "superbugs" or illnesses that are rendered untreatable by known or available medications. Can also cause yeast infections.
3. Egg proteins - not a huge deal unless you are allergic to eggs.
4. MSG - a known neurotoxin that has been shown to cause obesity.
5. Formaldehyde - the substance used to embalm dead bodies (this is also used in many nail polishes...if you've noticed your nails turning yellow after you remove certain nail polishes....congrats, you've begun the embalming process.
6. Thimerosal - linked to autism. I know, I know, the government has studies that show there is no link. If you actually read the studies - THEY ARE FLAWED. They are only conducted on healthy children who receive 1 vaccination at a time - which is not real life. This is banned in all EU vax.
7. DNA
8. Mouse protein
9. Sodium Hydroxide - also known as lye, a caustic agent used in paint strippers and biodeisel
10. Urea (urine)
11. Calf skin
12. Baby chicken embryo cells and kidney cells
13. ABORTED FETAL TISSUE
14. Monkey kidney tissue
15. Mouse brain
16. Baby monkey lung tissue

There is no guarantee vax will prevent your child from getting the disease. All of this info is available on the CDC website (US Center for Disease Control). The information is also available in the vax insert. Besides autism, other side effects are seizures, fever, decreased immune system, allergic reactions, etc.

Frankly, even just reading over the info about the vaccines (and their potential risks) and the diseases they protect from on someplace like cdc.gov demonstrates that many of the vaccines are not really all that necessary. They're there to limit missed days of school/work, not because they save lives or prevent injury.

Read the Dr. Sears vaccination book--I find it to be about as unbiased as anything could be. I lean towards the no vaccination side, so I've also done a lot of reading of things by the "other side"--the government, drug companies, etc. If they can't convince me that these things are a good idea, then I figure nothing can. I didn't do a lot of anti-vax reading, because that was too similar to how I already thought.

We've finally decided on what we're going to do; a very very limited number of vaccinations, and delaying those that we do decide to get.

In our state, you need to have a religious exemption that you provide yearly to the schools (you don't need to prove that you are in an organized religion, though, so anything could count). The schools do not tell people they have this right.

Also, it seems like the recent studies supposedly disproving the autism link only looked at thimerosal...seems irresponsible to me to only study one of the ingredients, and then say the entire vaccine is safe.

: Irritating isn't it? Every school teacher I know confidently asserts that my child will NOT be let into school without vaccines. Ignorant jerks.

anyway, I agree you should hit up the vaccination forum here, tons of info to keep you busy. My book recommendation is Vaccinnations: thoughtful parent's guide by Aviva Jill Romm but I might be biased as it's the only book I read about them. I mostly just got it to convince my husband that this was a valid topic, after all there are BOOKS written about it. Now he's totally on the no vax train.

In this day and age the diseases that they're meant (notice the word there, I caught virtually everything I was vaxed against...) to prevent are quite treatable. Its a rarity that they do become life threatening and the chances of dying are practically up there with getting hit by lightning. I'm far more afraid of the effects of vaccination than I am of the actual diseases.

I'm particularly against them since I'm 99% sure that I was vaccine injured as a child.

I have just finished reading the Dr. Sear's book and it is great; very informative and unbiased I felt. It outlines each vaccine giving what is in it, what it is meant to protect and reasons for giving it/reasons for not needing it so you can draw your own conclusions and make your own decisions. I never once read a chapter and felt "pressured" to give a vaccine even though dr. Sears is a pediatrician. Reading it makes me feel more prepared to make informed decisions regarding this LO and arms me to do battle with the general public and my own peds
