Hi there, wise mamas,

My dh has some severe varicose veins (the big, lumpy kind) on the back of one of his knees. He got them about 10-12 years ago as a teen. As he remembers it, they popped up all at once.

They do ache sometimes, but his main complaint is the appearance. And lately they seem to have been getting worse and spreading. Just recently some more showed up on the front of his leg, this time not the lumpy kind, but the green/purple "line-y" kind.

What causes this? Is there anything he can do? Is it related to nutrition? He's asked a few doctors about it over the years but hasn't gotten anything from them beyond, "Yep, those are varicose veins."

Any ideas?

I have some varicose veins from same decades (my teens!, lol). They're not getting any worse I think mostly because I walk barefoot 95%. I don't have any link now, maybe some of the barefoot mama's tribe can post some of this info.
