There was an article in the local paper yesterday about researchers definitively establishing a connection between SIDS and abnormal serotonin levels, yet they stated that as of yet they had NO theories as to what could be causing the abnormal levels in babies who died of SIDS.

Seems to me that I have read somewhere about the effect of vaxes on serotonin production....

Anyone recall?

Yeah....So why isn't anyone talking about this in light of the new research? Why does it have everyone scratching their heads? Seems like the potential connection is obvious....

I read it in a paper newspaper, not on line, but just google'd and found this one:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...sn=001&sc=1000

Hey! I was just reading that in our local newspaper, too.

Don't some forms of PPD drugs interfere with this as well?

Your link, led me to the NYTimes, who said that it is in the JAMA, (I am too tired to look up the source now), but they also posted the mechanism:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/01/science/01sids.html :

The research team, led by doctors at Children’s Hospital Boston, compared brain tissue from 31 infants who died of SIDS from 1997 to 2005 with samples from 10 babies who had died of other causes. They focused on an area of the brainstem called the medulla, which regulates breathing, sleep-and-wake cycles and other vital functions.

They found, among other oddities, that cells in this region of SIDS babies’ brains were significantly less sensitive to serotonin than those in the other brains. The brainstem supports the autonomic nervous system, which helps rouse sleeping people if they are breathing too little oxygen, the authors said; and serotonin keeps the system responsive. The defects were particularly striking in male brains, which could account for boys’ higher risk of SIDS, they said.

If the brain is less sensitive to serotonin and then there are decreased levels of serotonin (from the vaccination), that could be a contributing factor!.
