(No, I'm not pregnant. Just had to get that out of the way first, before anyone starts speculating! )

Anyone here VBAC after twins? Someone on another board I'm on said that she had a cesarean with twins, and wonders if/how having a distended uterus in a prior pregnancy could affect success in future VBACs. Anyone?

Hi christy!

I am the person from the other board and I would appreciate any information about experiences any of you might have had with a VBAC after twins. I was induced with my twin pregnancy at 38 weeks and ended up never having any strong contractions. My twins were born by C-section 26 hours after induction and weighed in at 6 lbs 5 ounces and 7 lbs 15 ounces. I was told that I was unable to go into strong labor because my uterus was very stretched out (which I believe is called an overdistended uterus in medical terms).

Hey, Kristi! Glad you made it over! I also cross posted this question in the VBAC forum (under Birth and Beyond) and there might be some responses there as well.

Well, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I carried an 11 lb baby and had many of the same problems that twin pregnancies have as far as size of uterus, separation of muscles, SPD, etc. Then I VBAC'ed almost 15 lbs of babies with my first set of twins. No problems then. Now we'll have to see what happens this time around. My poor uterus... she needs a rest I think.

I did! I had a singleton in December after a C-section with my twins. My Twin A was breech. I was in early labor & developed pre-eclampsia & had my babies at 37 weeks. I got PG when my twins had just turned 2. I started my singleton pregnancy with an OB and a midwife at a large university hospital & they just said, "great" when I said I wanted to VBAC. I switched to my current OB, though, when I found out they required an epidural catheter for VBAC moms in case of an emergency C-section. I did not want that and did not want to deal with fighting it.

So I found another doctor & hospital that treated VBAC mamas like any other Mom. Again, no one said anything about this being a post-twins pregnancy.

I had a successful VBAC. I did choose a hospital birth because we are about 20 minutes from a hospital, and that's assuming no traffic. But I had a med-free, intervention-free VBAC. It was such a great experience. Very intense, but amazing. I am so glad I got the chance to birth normally, baby on the belly all covered in vernix.

Oh, and I had a 10 lb singleton after having small twins, 11 lbs together. I carry straight out in front, so while I was not quite as big as I was with twins, I was still pretty dang big.

Best wishes for a great VBAC!

I am planning a VBAC this January. My OB was thrilled with my choice. The only condition is arriving early for extra monitoring, but I would have to do that if I had GD again anyway, so I am not worried. I will not need the epidural cath. placed. Just an IV, but that is standard at this hospital, and more so if I had GD. This is my 3rd time through this hospital. I am pretty clear on their policies by now.

I have a vbac planned for Sept. I was talked into having a csection with the twins and wish I hadn't have. I will do all that I can to avoid having another one. It is very important to find a supportive dr./midwife. I had a very hard time finding a dr to even do it, I live in the Kansas City Missouir area. I found someone that was very positive and reasurring that he would do everything he could to give me the birth I wanted. I found out I was going to have another baby about 4 mo after my twins were born. I guess I don't have much info, but will say go for it and best of luck.
