I'm 12 weeks prego with number 2 and looking for a VBAC.

I have been seeing Dr. Bentolila up until this point, but now he's told me that he will section me at 39 weeks, and that if I go into labor before that he might let me try to VBAC, but only if I come in over 6 cm. Not sounding very VBAC friendly, right? And I had several doulas recommend him to me as the VBAC guy.

I also visited Lonnie Morris, but to be honest she and I didn't click well. I'm sure she's wonderful at helping to get a baby out, but it makes me wonder if I would be hiding from her and asking her to leave by the time I'm ready to push. She's not exactly warm and fuzzy.

So, does anyone have any other suggestions for me? I'm also not sure about Valley as the place to deliver, as they don't have telemetric monitoring and I think that not being able to walk and shower will probably send me to an epidural quickly.

What hospitals and OBs/midwives do you recommend?

I have been looking into this for if/when I have a second.

Marla Scott at Denville can do VBACs if her Doctors agree (so for breech c-sections, etc.). I've heard great things about her. Fortunately, my story is no good for them so that's out for me.

Avalon and One to One at Morristown get okay reviews (from what I've seen) and Morristown has wireless monitoring and a pretty nice facility (that's where my daughter was born).

My friend just had an unplanned VBA2C at Morristown with a regular old Ob/Gyn group because she got there at 8cms and the female doctor just went with it.

I don't blame you for leaving Bentolila if that's his attitude. I don't get why they behave like this. Am seriously tempted to go back to England for a few months if I have a 2nd, where they'd let me have a HOMEBIRTH! The rules in NJ are daft.

I hope someone else who has actually had a VBAC can give you better feedback.

Well, that doctor definitely doesn't sound the *the* VBAC guy. Unfortunately, doctors will change their tune about VBAC very quickly in some cases. Its really sad.

Lonnie is a strong personality. If you don't feel like you clicked with her, I would certainly keep looking! I had a midwife that people loved for my first birth (which ended in a c-section). I never clicked with her but people would tell me how wonderful she was. I should have trusted my instincts that said we were not a good match.

As far as VBACs, like the pp said, there are the Avalon midwives and One-to-One (although they only have 1 midwife there now) at Morristown. I talked to a woman last year who went to Dr Judy Banks at Morristown who was also open to VBAC (and her birth plan in general). Dr Winesome Parchment at Mountainside is also a very VBAC (and natural birth in general) supportive doctor. There are a couple doctors a little closer that supposedly support VBAC. I have reservations on suggesting them since I'm not really sure what their general attitude about VBAC is but feel free to PM for names! Good luck!
