Anyone else? I had an emergency c section with DS and now plan on VBAC with a midwife in a hospital setting (as no birth center will have me and homebirth is $$ out of the question).

Hi Mraven! I haven't had a vbac, but wondered where in MI you are? I'm just outside Detroit in Grosse Pointe.

Jennifer
I've had a VBAC. My first was born by c-section - my second was a vaginal birth, in a hospital, using a doctor who was the closest I could find to a midwife at the time.

Oops, I found this thread via new posts....I see it's in the due date clubs....

Mraven - So who is your midwife? Trish? I'm seeing her right now, but I think I'm going to switch over to Mother's Own Birth Center with Linda Johnson. She does homebirths and will even do prenatals in my house!!

Jennifer
Jennifer, I haven't found one yet. I was thinking Trish (she's with Metro Partners, right?!? Is here name Patricia Scane? Or is that someone else??) Do you like her? Have you used her before?

WOW about prenatal in your house that would be awesome! I don't think I can convince DH to go the home birth route, but if $$ weren't an issue I'd be pushing it more.

I was also thinking of going over to Uof M and using their midwifery care. It's only about 25 minutes from me, about the same as Providence.

I'm so happy there is someone from MI here!

Itlbokay; cute name! I guess I don't have any specific questions. I'm getting more and more confident with every hour. Disappointed that I can't use a birthing center. Finding great resources here at MDC, which is wonderful!

Hi again Michelle - I just saw your picture of Carter - VERY cute!!!

Yes, Patricia Skane is her name. I really love her. I was at a birth that she attended and she was wonderful a couple years ago with one of my miscarraiges. My problem with going to her is that she's in an office of doctors and medical staff. I went in last Wed. for blood work and then had more bloodwork done on Friday. I've called and called and called for a response and all they'll tell me is that if there'd been a problem with my lab work, they would've called. They couldn't even tell me if they had gotten all the results in. They wouldn't leave a message for Trish unless it was an emergency. I need to feel more taken care of - KWIM?? But, Trish is wonderful - if you can talk to her!!

I need to do more research, but I think this birth center is covered by most insurance companies because it's a birth center. But, she'll do homebirths too. I haven't actually talked about prices with her yet.

I've heard really nice things about the midwives at AA too!

Glad you like the name, it makes me happy

Your confidence will take you far in your goal

I hope all you due date club ladies don't mind that I posted here. I see vbac in a thread and I've just got to check it out.

My second son's birth (vbac) was a really incredible experience, I encourage anyone who is in a position to try for a vbac to go for it

Yep, VBAC here too.

We found a midwife that we love (after interviewing 4 others) who will be attending our homebirth.

mraven721 - you mentioned no birth centers where you are will do VBAC, which is also the case here in MA....it makes me SO MAD!

WHAT?!?!?! Are you serious? Is this a new thing? We are talking about Trish Scane, CNM, right? I know she learned with HB midwives but I didn't know that she did them now. This changes everything for me!

Hi Jessica!
Who are you using? I think I'm going to make an appointment with Charlotte and talk about finances and convincing DH about HB!

Sorry Jessica!! Didn't mean to cause any confusion. No, Trish doesn't do homebirths. The other Birth Center that I think I'm going to go with (Mother's Own) does homebirths. And, because she's a CNM, most insurance companies will cover it too.

I can give you the name and number of the midwife I'm interviewing from Mother's Own next week if you'd like though! I'm not sure if she does VBAC at home or not.

Sure. I'm not a VBAC (sorry for hijacking), so do you know if this CNM does regular HBs?

I've got an interview with New Moon (Merrilynn and Amanda) on Wednesday and I'll talk to Charlotte if I still need more information from her to decide (I've got a little bit of a preexisting relationship with her).

My big issue, though, is insurance. It's soooo hard to justify spending that much money if ins would just cover it 100% in a hospital. I mean, that's a nice chunk to start a college fund! If I can find one that'll do a HB and get 100% - I don't care WHO they are!
Well, I do care, but you know what I mean.

We did HB with DD, though, and I MUST do it again. Heck, the experience was so good that it made me rethink my 2-kid limit. :LOL

I had a VBAC with my second. It was a hospital birth with a midwife. This time I am having a homebirth.

I hope to have a 2nd VBAC. I'm not brave enough to have a homebirth - (although I would love to) so I will give birth in the hospital. As far as hospitals go, the one I will go to is not so bad. My OBs are supportive/advocates of VBACs and when Ben was born a couple nurses came by to congratulate me and welcome me into the "VBAC club".
I'm planning a vbac homebirth. My last birth was c-sec because she was breech. Even if this baby ends up being breech, I'm hoping I will be able to find a midwife who is confident enough to handle a breech delivery at home. You couldn't pay me enough to birth at a hospital unless someone's life was in danger. Hospitals suck.
I'm planning a hospital VBA2C. The idea of a homebirth sounds great to me but since I am 45 minutes, with no traffic at all, from the nearest city hospital I really don't feel comfortable with it. I am trying to line up my midwives, I talked to one tonight and she told me to call the office tomorrow to get on the waiting list. Hopefully I can get in. I plan to do hypnobirthing as well. I really feel strongly that I will be able to birth vaginally this time and I'm actually excited about it!
