Whatcha makin' this year?

Every year I make lots of shortbread for gifting using Earth Balance from this recipe.

This year I am trying some new recipes from PPK.

Like Chocolate Orange Cupcakes and Gingerbread Cupcakes with Lemony Frosting.

And of course I'll be making a pecan and pumpkin pie. (scroll down from first link for a pumpkin pie recipe.) I'm thinking of making home made truffles from a pamphlet I got on being vegan that is full of yummy recipes, but I may ditch it in order to get lots of cookies done.

I'll also try to get a gingerbread house done with dd, and make enough fudge that we're sick of it and don't want to eat it until next year. And some gingerbread and sugar cookies for dd to decorate.

Another crowd pleaser that I may get to is the truffle brownie mix from trader joe's brownies with peppermint frosting. I have all natural peppermint flavoring oil from our local co-op and I use it often for homemade ice cream and peppermint hot cocoa.

So what are you baking? What about those who are anti-sugar? What are you baking/making for holiday treats? Any raw holiday goodies?

For cookies I was thinking just sugar cookies or shortbread

I found a recipe on PPK for vegan caramel sauce and I found a recipe somewhere online for butterscotch frosting that I could use substitutes for and make vegan. I was thinking that this year or next I should make butterscotch cupcakes with butterscotch frosting and then drizzle caramel sauce over the top.

This thread is making me hungry!

I still have yet to make the (now belated) vegan cupcakes for my friend, but I'm probably eating dinner at her house this Saturday night, so it will be soon. Here are the dessert recipes I've planned for the next couple weeks:

Carob Fudge Brownies (Great Good Desserts Naturally)

Orange Ginger Crisps (Great Good Desserts Naturally)

Lemon-Vanilla Cupcakes w/ Lemony Buttercream (Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World)

Pears in Red Wine (Jewish Vegetarian Year)

DH is an omnivore and wants me to make him "Chocolate Chess Pie" (from Pie), but I'm not sure it can be veganized. I have Earth Balance spread (to sub for butter) and Spectrum's organic shortening, but the pie filling is supposed to be custard-like and asks for eggs. I use flax (in lieu of eggs) as a binder in things like muffins or quick breads, but what I need here is a good egg substitute for custards - is there such a thing?

Ok, I'm not a vegan but for some reason, all the recipes I have found just happen to vegan! I'm not making much since we will be eating at someone elses house so I'm just making our main dish which is called a Harvest Pot Pie. It looks sooo yummy. And I'm gonna make some sugar cookies with homemade frosting. And a chocolate Birthday cake for Jesus, with homemade frosting as well. All vegan too, I'm excited.

Man. I wish I could afford and find time to make everyone else's recipes too! This all sounds amazing.

Wow, everything sounds so delicious!

Last month's "Vegetarian Times" had some great vegan cookie recipes in it. At this point, I think I've made about 200 vegan cranberry-almond biscotti from their recipe--they're to die for! (and I'm making even more for my office holiday party tomorrow!)

I've even drizzled them with a bit of 70% dark chocolate (kind with no milk fat). Yummm!

Next year, I swear, next year I'll get back to my Christmas baking... I used to give away tins for gifts; but now I have no family (and few friends) here, so I'd just end up eating it all myself and that's no good

Mamma Mia those recipes sound great, I really want to make shortbread so I might do that. Other than that, I'll only be making a pumpkin pie dessert to go with our dinner for two-and-a-half.

The shortbread is really easy. Just pull it out just before you can see it browning. The cookies will still be soft and the bottom will be a little golden and when it cools it will harden. Then it is amazing. Best recipe ever.

You just made my day really. I love Bird's custard, but I totally gave up thinking it was would be safe. I was thinking of making the apple gingerbread pie from VWAV and that would be a divine topping!

I didn't see a sugar cookie recipe, and I've been wanting to make some.. did I pass over it?

I am making vegan no-bake cookies to put in mini stockings. Just the regular recipe, but with vegan subsitutes (EB, and soy milk), and a little less sugar. Normall I LOVE baking, but pregnancy takes a lot out of me, so I am not going to be baking that much this year.

I've got desserts covered this year...its the main entree I'm having trouble with as dh doesn't want to have an UnTurkey.

As far as desserts go I'm making my usual selection of vegan Christmas cookies...biscotti, gingerbread, peppermint candy canes, lemon tuiles. I might even splurge and make a Devil's Food Cake~ the recipe was in the newest VegNews. I'm also going to try my hand at mincemeat b/c my mom loves the stuff.

I think b/c I'm the vegan dessert queen that I should be relinquished of my duties to come up with the rest of the menu. I'm seriously over what to make.

This recipe didn't really work for me. I even added a ton more flour. The frosting was yummy though. Try this recipe for sugar cookies...Bryanna's low-fat vegan sugar cookies
