Are erectile dysfunction and the huge demand for Viagra in the US related to circumcision? This is something that I've been wondering about. Since circ takes away the most sensitive part of the penis, and the glans is constantly exposed and rubbing on cloth etc it makes sense. Is there such a demand for Viagra in non-circumcising countries? I wondered if anyone had info on that.

Also, is it true that the foreskin has about 20,000 nerves and the glans has 4,000? I've seen several circ sites state the 20,000 number, but I can't find or remember where I got 4,000. Thanks!

You might find it here:

www.cirp.org search under Taylor. He is the one who disected all the foreskins to let us know what we were cutting off.

http://www.cirp.org/library/anatomy/

There is a huge volume of circumstantial evidence supporting your theory. Consider:

(1.) The US consumes well over half of the world's supply of Viagra.

(2.) Israel (Jewish) is the world's largest counterfieter of Viagra and the second largest per capita consumer of Viagra type products.

(3.) Indonesia (Muslim) is the largest per capita consumer of Viagra type products.

(4.) All predominately Muslim countries have significant problems with counterfieting and smuggling of Viagra type products.

(5.) The manufacturer of Viagra has had little success penetrating the European market despite intense marketing there.

(6.) Restearch by Edward O. Laumann of the University of Chicago found that circumcised men suffer impotence years before their intact bretheren.

While there is no definitive smoking gun, the circumstantial evidence is compelling. It is enough to convince me and if this were a criminal prosecution case, I think would convince a jury in all but a death penalty case.

Circumcision and erectile dysfunction..I had not put the two together. It makes perfect sense, as all these baby boomer circumcised men are hitting older age..

More fuel for the fire, for sure...adding that to my list of cause and effect.

Also consider that the men of the age that would be using Viagra now were almost all born before the early 1950's when the circumcision rate was less than 50%. In the next 30 or so years, you can expect the US consumption of Viagra to almost double. Another interesting thing that may or may not have a correlation is that the divorce rate shot up almost in lock step with circuumcision rates but about 30 years later. The divorce rate is currently around 60% and still rising. If there is a correlation, it can be expected to rise to about 70% to 75% around 2010 to 2015. If the current trend continues, it will be there right on time.

There are other correlations to circumcision that while they can not be proved to have a cause and effect relationship, are intriguing in how well they have followed the circumcision trend.

While it might contribute I think there are other reasons. ED is symptom of smething larger. be it mental of physical. I was watching oprah (I know I know)and they had a Dr.on who said it was directly related to hardened arteries. Well that would certainly explain why Americans need so much viagra considering how we eat (as a nation, not anyone in specific). Add to that all the other things that can cause it and you have almost an entire nation of men that can't get it up.

Frank- I have never posted here, but read often and always enjoy your posts. I was wondering if you could give some citations for the stuff about who uses the most Viagra. I totally believe you, but would like to say I've read it somewhere other than "A guy who posts on the anti-circ board", IYKWIM. Thanks.

bjbjd, thanks for the links. I did not see exact numbers of nerves but i will keep looking!

lilyka, that makes sense about American eating habits. And Frank, thanks for those facts. I especially wondered how well Viagra was selling in European countries.

You are right about artherealsclerosis (sp?), hypertension and other causes of ED in older men but the facts just don't add up for men that suffer ED in their 40's and 50's. That is why ED is such a mystery in these men. I think it is also a red herring to blame psychological issues on this widely spread phenomena. This is the excuse of last resort when the problem can't be diagnosed. The fact is that the medical profession has chosen to avoid circumcision as a contributing factor because the medical profession is the source of that factor. A conclusive link between ED and circumcision could have devastating effects on the medical profession. So far, few medical professionals have suggested a link but the psychological profession has not been as reticent.
