I just found out about this mag today. Its pretty cool! Not as cool as Mothering of course! But they had this article about some famous couple. Forget their names, but the mom is extended BFing and they haven't vaxed their 15 month old! I was so happy to read that. And they ahve the cutest picture of the mom and baby. She is holding the baby and the baby has her hand inside her dress. My DD does that too.

I'm so nosy, though... I *really* want to know who the couple is? I have some ideas... I also just read that Julia Roberts is "still" nursing her 11 mo. twins. I thought that was kinda cool/surprising - don't know why, because I don't know her & don't really care. I just like hearing about bf-ing babies!

Me too! Is it something that they're carrying at Borders or would I have to trek into the city to find a hip enough bookstore?

It looks like a cool magazine!

I just called them and the woman on the phone said the magazine can be found at Borders and Barnes & Noble. You can order one copy from the website (I'm a dolt and didn't see that right away, which is why I called
), but the shipping makes it a bit high. I'm hoping my local B&N has it.

Great! I'll have to check out B&N next time I'm near there!

I bought a copy of Violet at Borders. It's not really an ap magazine, but I enjoyed the articles. Also the magazine has a really good tactile feel to it, with sort of heavier, matte pages. Kind of like the anthroplogie catalog, but nicer quality.

I went out and bought it today... What I've read is cool so far, and the lack of a billion ads was
. It was kinda funny, though, since I was expecting it to be similar to Mothering -- AP, NFL, etc. - and there was a huge Hummer ad in the front inside cover.

I do like the feel of it, though. It's like I got my money's worth with how the paper feels.

I have been reading this magazine since the first issue. They have had 'crunchy' articles in just about every issue. I like it a lot except for the HUGE hummer ads. :-/

OT: A Hummer note (my dad works for GM) is that the h3 is getting even better gas mileage. Each one is getting better and better on gas mileage so that's good to hear.

Sounds like a neat magazine, maybe I can pick up a used copy somewhere... I hardly ever get to B&N or Borders since it's a 30 minute drive and I have too many other errands to run.

It's not at the B&N across from my house. I will have to order a copy online, I guess, since I'm too lazy to look at a store that I have to drive to.

(Maybe if I had a Hummer I'd be more willing, though....
)

I must be a dolt too, because I can't see how to order just one copy on the website. Can anyone explain it? Using small words and short sentences?

um, yeah. Call me when it gets to over 15mpg and maybe I won't think it's so evil anymore.
I'm plainning on my next vehicle being either a hybrid Sienna (we have one now that gets about 20mpg and I feel awful about that. My last car got 33) or something that runs on veggie oil.

I'll have to go down to b&N soon to check this out. Maybe I'll have time tonight after trick or treating the businesses downtown. Hey, maybe they ARE one of hte businesses that's participating.

Hey Marisa! (Remember me? We "met" on FYT months ago...I'm in NJ, too)

You're not a dolt! I had the same problem and actually called them, asking them questions that were answerable on their site.

At the Violet site, click on Subscribe on the Menu (on the left). When you get that new page on the right side, scroll down a little using that flower-on-the-vine thing and you'll see where you can buy individual or back copies. The magazine is kinda heavy for a magazine, so I would say the shipping would be about right at $3 (I thought it would be thinner like Mothering, but it isn't.)

I hear ya. I don't know how people keep their gas tanks filled, my minivan is bad enough (we do a lot of carpooling with family so it's worth it). A lot of people are driving them around here, granted it's the country so most people own a truck or SUV type vehicle with 4wd, but for a lot of the people driving them it's a status symbol. My parents don't even own a car... my dad drives a small truck that gets great MPG and my mom drives a big truck that gets barely-okay gas mileage but she has to haul a lot of stuff like goat grain, hay for the goats, wood etc... they live on a small farm. I've heard/read conflicting info about hybrids, but I heard something on the radio the other day about a new engine that Honda is working on, something like it will double the MPG? That would be cool... GM better get on the ball is all I can say. I'd love to be able to afford a new minivan with a great engine in a few years.

Okay.. back on topic.

oooh! that magazine IS cool. There was a great article about Patricia Arquette and her son and daughter a few months ago. I'm lucky enough to have a coffee shop that lets you read the magazines so when DH takes the baby for me to have "me time" I can go check it out for free.

And I loooove the photo shoots. They make it look like having a family with young kids is sooooo hip and cool. It cracks me up because to me, the big thing about having a family is letting go of ever being hip and cool again.
