My son is coughing so hard...so much to the point where he gets sick. He's coughing every, what seems like 30 sec or so. When, in your opinions, does it become too much and there is a need to go in to ER or Urgent Care?? We saw the doctor this afternoon and she thought he had Viral Bronchitis. Not sure what to do. We put a cool mist humidifier in the bedroom and have been giving him warm eucalyptus oil baths.

I know that he has to work through it, but my poor baby. His face gets so red

Anyway, thanks! Any suggestions would ease my worried heart.

DD and I just got over that. No fun

I got the powdered mucinex for dd and it really helped her get over her cough...sooner than me. It doesn't supress the cough, just helps break up the mucus to get over the cough quicker.

That and a humidifyer and lots of TLC got her through it. There is really nothing a doctor can do for a viral infecton. It just has to work it's way out (and mucinex will help--just the powder though).

Hope your lil' one gets to feeing better

Gosh. I had it a good 3 weeks--complete with body aches and extreme fatigue, coughing through the night, etc.

DD got over it in about a week. Her only symptom appeared to be the cough and she got a runny nose for a few days. As soon as I started her on Mucinex (just the mini melt powder) her cough was less frequent and sounded much better.

Hope your LO is feelng better soon, mama

How is his breathing when not coughing? IS he wheezing when exhaling or inhaling? Does he have shortness of breath?

Is his skin mottled? Is his colouring 'off'?

ETA: I noticed that your OP was a while ago and I probably won;t check back in tonight. But I would say that if you answered yes to any of the above questions, I would take him in right away.
