After pushing for 3 hrs with dd, I guess I'm doomed with VVs at each pg...
I didn't have any problems postpartum with dd--swelling went down and everything seemed to go back to normal.

Fast forward 4 yrs...now I'm pg and close to due...I've had vulvar aches and pains off and on, and right now I am noticing more swelling--especially on the right side. I can actually see the wavey blue veins--like an old lady's legs!

Checked in the mirror tonight after some discomfort--I pushed out like I remember pushing with dd...and I could see it swell before my eyes. Worried me.

I'm wondering if there is anything I should use now before birth....if it's a big deal or not...and if it can hinder birth in anyway.

I'm planning a home water birth and I hope the water makes things easier.

Thanks!

A few of my clients have been relieved by taking Hamamelis virginia, a homeopathic preparation of witch hazel. Works for varicosities and hemorrhoids. Try the 30C remedy available at health food stores or find out if your midwife has a stronger potency in her kit in the event the smaller potency doesn't work for you.

Belly support can help, as can elevating the hips and thighs (taking weight off the pelvis/shifting weight). Supplements/nutrition help some moms, increasing vitamin C and bioflavanoids.

Sometimes wearing a bulky pad can help, as it provides support to the area and can ease pain. Also padsicles (pads with water or witch hazel on them, frozen) can feel great. Nothing is going to make them really go away, but maybe help a little, and help you feel better.

Thanks!
I LOVED witch hazel with dd...I will do the frozen pad thing for sure!
Hamamelis virginia sounds good too--gotta check my m/w to see if she has any or where I can get it (I'm sure it's at my health food store!)
I've been taking extra vit C and eatting a half of a grapefruit every morning--but I will also increase my collard greens--been planning on that anyways!
I just hope it doesn't feel like I'm losing a labia or two during pushing ya know?
