DS (21mos) got a fever Thursday night that continued through Friday. This morning (Sat) it was gone but it is back tonight. My husband wants to know if I will bring him to church in the morning if it is low grade, like under 100. My thought is, if he has a fever his immune system is actively fighting something off so he shouldn't be around a host of other people's germs because then he might really get sick. My husband works at the church, so everyone knows us and shakes my son's hand. Right now it has just been a fever, no other symptoms, except crankiness sometimes.

So...what would you do? At what point would you make sure your child stays home. Is there a range of temperature for a fever that you would let you child go out? I'm leaning towards no - don't go out even with a low grade fever since the body is fighting something off and immune system is therefore weakened.

Also, if there is no fever in the morning, should I still keep him home to help him recover longer? Especially since the fever is apparently coming and going?

Thanks for any advice or opinions!

Keep him home. If you go you may regret it later if he's worse but you won't really regret staying home and taking it easy. Usually the rule is 24 hours without a fever before you can bring the kid to daycare so I'd go by that.

I do no exposure to other kids or at risk groups with in 24 hours of a fever over 100.4 - for my childs sake too. And I appreciate it when others do the same although I realize it is not always feasible.

That all makes sense about waiting 24hrs. I really didn't know if once the fever is gone he is fine or if I should wait a certain amount of time. It has already been decided that he will stay home.

Please keep him home. For his sake and others, even with a low grade temp he wont be up to par, also others might be exposed to what is only be a mild bug to him but serious to someone else.

Sorry your little one is feeling under the weather, stay home and snuggle and do your own little worship sevice together tommorw. In my opinion Dad will have to go it alone this week

Yes, a fever means stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever has passed.

Hope your little one feels better soon.

The fever has been gone since midnight, but still staying home for recoup time. And that was round 2 of the fever so it may or may not come back again.
