I'm just curious about when mamas "normally" start back up bleeding when breast feeding. My son is almost 14 months (nursing strong) and to be honest I miss menstruating. Also wondering if other mamas have used herbs to start up again. What are the reasons to do this and what herbs did you use? Thanks...

I've heard the average is 18 months. Not sure if that's accurate.

Every woman is different. My sister was at 3 months, my friend never got it back even at 26 months & then got pregnant before it returned.

I do know that for some women, when they night wean or have fewer night feedings, it comes back.

the average I read in Breastfeeding and Natural Family Planning was 14.5 months. Many women go longer. It depends on our own body's threshold for ovulation and how frequently our babies nurse.
Personally, I wouldn't mess with your body by trying to induce ovulation and menstruation. Breastfeeding gives our reproductive systems a break and the lowered hormone levels are what gives us the lowered risk of reproductive cancers.

I felt the same way you do, but I just started again 2 days ago (2 days before Noah turned 13 months), which was surprising because my mom always started by 6 months (but I'm not sure if she co-slept the whole time with us...that makes a BIG difference).

It's interesting though because my period so far has been REALLY light. I've never had a problem with heavy periods, but this is lighter than the first time I got it, lol. sorry if that's TMI.

I was annoyed that I kept putting off getting a DIVA cup.
: So now I'm just using flannel pieces as pads. lol

o.k, sorry, I'l stop rambling about my cycle...
