I hope this is ok to post, but I just wanted to let people know (if they didn't already) that there is a Waldorf school in the western suburbs (Warrenville, IL) that serves children age 18 mos. through 8th grade.

I mention it because Waldorf education is often discussed here at MDC and the community generally drawn to Waldorf schools often shares many of the same values promoted here at MDC (e.g., healthy/organic eating, emphasis on "play" being the "work" of early children, taking a wholistic approach to health, extended BFing, AP lifestyle, restricting the influence of media, etc.) However, it seems to me that nobody realizes that this school exists and that is a missed opportunity for us AP parents really looking to build a sense of community out in the western suburbs. (It's really nice to go somewhere where you're not the "weird" mommy and your kid isn't the weird one either).

I personally didn't know that the school existed until a friend of mine in CA saw it on some Waldorf website and suggested that I check it out since it was consistent with my parenting approach. So, my point is that the school is having a "preschool sampler" this Saturday to give a glimpse into what a preschool class experience is like at the school (for those with kids who will be 3-6 next year), and they're having a "day in the life of a Waldorf school" (for those with kids ages 6+) next month. They also have monthly open houses/teas and a really sweet festival in spring that is open to the community.

Here's the school website if you want to take a look. The details for the aforementioned events are listed under hte "Events" link.

Waldorf School

If you're looking for some AP company, There is an ap group out in the far western suburbs and the mama who started it is a mdcer. Also in the western suburbs LLL is very active. The Lombard AM meeting meets every 3rd Thursday in Villa Park on Ardmore. It has a large attendance of mamas with babes and tots and a few older ones too. We also have a LLL playgroup not necessarily sponsored or started by LLL but we all went there and met and it worked out! We are all on on 2nd and some soon to be 3rd babies there (not me!). So pm me if you want more info.
