What's the minimum amount of walking I could do and still see some benefits, such as losing a few lbs and toning up some?

It really depends on how many calories you consume during the day. When I was trying to lose weight I ate about 1400 calories a day, sometimes a little more, sometimes less. I walked on the treadmill at 4mph with a 4-6% incline for 30 minutes a day, six days a week. I lost 25lbs in a little over 3 months.

I am now in maintenance and consume, rough guess since I don't count anymore, 1600 or so a day. I still do the treadmill, and yoga, and it's keeping the weight off. Four months and counting.

At least 30-60 minutes a day of brisk walking should help you lose weight. It'll help more with toning your legs if you do hills or use ankle weights.

Another thing to try is to get a step counter, a little pedometer you wear at your belt. It counts your steps all day. Aim for 10,000 steps a day and, along with a healthy diet, you will lose weight.

Good luck! HTH!
