Today I suggested the name Sunshine for the baby, which dh thought was kind of weird, BUT he liked a different form of it, like... Soliece? Soleis? Solice? Soliese? Pronounced like So-leeeese.<br><br>
Spelling suggestions? I don't like Solice because it looks like so lice. Hee. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

How about Soleil? Pronounced so-lay. It is french for sun.<br><br>
Or the spelling Soleece? That's all I can think of. Good luck!

I like Soliese just because it's the one that looks the most like you want it pronounced. But I'm funny that way - I don't care too much for weird spellings.

A little different twist but maybe Solstice?<br><br>
FWIW I've always loved Soleil and it has often graced our short list for middle names <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/loveeyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Loveeyes">: .<br><br>
I think the name route your going is beautiful, something will come to you and fit <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">.

Very pretty! I like Soliese for a pronunciation of "so-leese." I'd be tempted to pronounce Soleis more like Soleil, too, with the "lay" ending. I think Soliese is a bit easier to interpret, visually, with the silent 'e' on the end! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

"Solis" is the Spanish last name (Gabrielle & Carlos Solis - Desperate Housewives) - it is actually a Latin word meaning "sun."

Yeah I was totally thinking about the DH connection! I'll just tell people, "Ya know, like Gabby and Carlos on DH!" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I like Sunshine. A girl in my high school class was named Sunshine (went by Sunny) and it was pretty.

There's also Solidad or Sunny.<br><br>
I mentioned Sunny to the hubster a couple of weeks ago and he gagged. But I suppose it's par for the course -- I gag on plenty of his names!

My name is Sol, which is simply "sun" in Spanish. My niece's name is "Solange", from French. There's also Solana and Marisol.<br><br>
ETA: Soledad is quite common in Spanish too, but it means solitude, FWIW.

Dh wants Solis. I want Soliese. I think we're going to split the difference and go with Solise. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love">

Solise sounds (and looks) beautiful!<br><br>
I wish I could find a good middle name. With DS, we had his middle name picked out very early on, and called him by that name the whole pregnancy. It was a name that fit either a boy or a girl and we didn't know which he was, so it was nice to have a name for him during that time. This baby...no such luck!
