That's definitely me! I need tips for breaking dh of the habit. I think it is part of his DNA. Just yesterday he was telling me he wants a plasma tv. I can think of about 100 things I'd rather have. Good thing we don't have the money for that!

I've gotten myself down to two shows a week, and I've been working on ds. He's starting to get the idea that after you watch your show, you turn off the tv. I figure that's at least a start.

I'm in! I grew up with out TV, but then got addicted later when I went to college. I hate that some times I'll be all caught up in some lame TV show and realize...hey, it's a beautiful day out side. Also I hate the though of my ds becoming one of those pasty, fat lazy kids that hates to play out side.

So count me in! I'm ready to give up the TV!

a full week . . . except for my two shows! lol, I am weak!

I got my dh off the video games, although I'm not sure how--now if only I could get him off the sitcoms. do sports count as tv? I sort of like when he watches sports b/c I don't get sucked into a program. I can read with no distractions.

count me in! I can't say DH and I will ever be truly tv free - we are huge Red Sox and Patriots fans.

It is more the tv for the kiddos. I fully admit to using it as a babysitter so that I can catch a coffee break during the day. But now my two year old wakes up and the first thing he says is, "Can I watch dragon? Can I watch animals?" (those are his names for Baby Einstein shows he likes)

Ideally, I would love to be tv free. I would like to work toward it and can definitely use some support.

We get net flix instead of cable, so really we just watch the 3 movies a week, the only TV show we watch is Jepordy and some times the news. so I feel like we're doing pretty good, but every once in a while I find my self camped in front of the Tv watching reruns and gaining weight...yuck...I just really want to be the kind of person that would rather not watch TV, and not the kind of person that has to make them selves not watch Tv, ya know?

I feel like I've got a handle on my own tv watching. I always feel I have so many projects that I don't really have time for it (reading, scrapbooking, sewing). It's amazing how much I get done when I don't camp out in front of the tube, and I enjoy life so much more. Still, I have my two shows that I plan to watch every week, and I tape them so I don't even waste time on commercials. And lately I've been knitting while watching too.

I admit to using the tv as a babysitter when I need some downtime, though. Right now I am reducing the time when I can. We are out for much of the day, but I feel like whenever we are home the tv should not be on. I try to turn it off when I can. I need support here too!

I do need to limit my own computer time, though. Working on that.

As Blues Clues music plays in the background I am writing that I want our family to be TV Free. My dd is addicted. She keeps turning it on and I honestly can't keep up with her. Either that or the huge blowups when I try to turn it off.

So we are entertaining the idea of giving up the big stupid thing that mesmerizes her in the living room. Even though I will really miss having it to give myself a break.

I know its alot of work, but the more work the less you or your DD will be tempted to watch! Good Luck!

My Dh and I are TV free interms of cable... We live in such a rural area that no cable means no TV. But we have one...and a big collection of movies. It was hard at first but then I realized how many things I wanted to do that I had time for once TV was no longer an option. (I used to watch HGTV and TLC almost constantly!). Now I hardly have time for my other interests (walking, crochet/knitting, mushroom hunting, fishing, etc.) and couldn't see how TV would fit back into my life if I had it.

We do watch a couple of movies a week. But it is much easier to regulate than a constant available flow of programing.

DD is 3mo old and we had a movie on one night and she was absolutely mesmerized by it... creepy. Not something I want to subject her to any more than is necessary...she will have her library of old Disney and Looney Tunes thoguh.

We're moving in 2 weeks and we just decided that in the new house we'll be TV free.

We only have 5 channels as it is (no cable/ satellite) and we hardly ever watch TV.

It feels like a really positive decision. I've been TV free before (for 5 years) and I loved it. C'mon mamas we can do it

So how's everyone doing with the tv-free goals this week? I've been pretty good about turning the tv off with ds in the morning, but it's hard. I need to get better about keeping it off when we're not really watching. For myself, I've only been "listening" to tv while I knit. But my real progress in the past week has been getting off the computer while I'm home. I've been so much more productive with this thing off, but it's hard, b/c I work from home and need to be on it for that.
