The title says it all. We are currently TTC and are considering UC in water. I am trying to get all the info I need in order to be prepared. What do I need to know? The cord? placenta? cleaning the baby? apgar tests? what things to check for? I have to admit Im a little nervous right now, but I have at minimum 9 months to prepare so by the time I have the baby, hopefully I will know enough. LOL TIA!

Reading through this forum is an education in itself - I read through all 200+ pages a while ago, and it was very educating and enlightening - gives you a clearer idea of what needs to be done in a unhindered birthing environment.

May you have a happy and healthy 40+ weeks, and a beautiful birth!

We're trying for our first, and we want a UC.

The only thing we're really nervous/worried about is getting the birth certificate, and not getting CPS involved. Where we are, there are A LOT of bizarre rules about home births. We're even, potentially, thinking of doing this in another state with more lax laws. Or, conversely, even leaving the country. (We have family all over, lol.) We'd rather deal with the red tape of an out of the country birth than the red tape that comes from a UC where we live.

We're just REALLY scared of CPS involvement. I think we've read too many horror stories.

Anyway, I agree - read through everything here. And then there is a website - Born Free, I think, or Unassisted Childbirth - one of those. That has tons of stories and videos. Very inspirational.

Reading tons of birth stories helped me a lot. They give you a wide range of what could happen during labor and birth. Gives ya less to be suprised about.

i'm sure there are plenty of women here who've UC'd safely and successfully in California...however should you decide to go elsewhere i just wanted to mention that Las Vegas actually has really loose birthing laws. Its pretty easy in NV to do just about anything. Super easy/fast to marry, divorce, get a birth certificate.LOL. and there are lots of homebirthers, and i hear Vegas has one of the lowest vaccine and circ rates in the nation, if that matters at all. LOL

Read, read and read some more. I am planning my first UC for June and I have been reading up on everything from UP care to midwifery informationa and also the information as to why I don't want a hospital birth or midwifery attended birth. I use this site, cafe mom, and tons of other sites for information on the natural way to do this including herbs that I may need for emergancies. I am not sure about the BC becuase I am an expat I have a girl who files all my paperwork here and she is doing it. As for the law a different poster mentioned. It is not illeagal to UC, if you are truly worried then have a accidental UC. No one can fault you there. I opted to tell people about my UC, I have been pretty lucky been pretty much supported (at least to my face ) which is all I care about. Well Good Luck

I UC'd in California...we had no issues. In fact it was very easy to get the birth certificate (took 5 minutes) and our neighbors were really cool so we didn't have any issues with CPS. Make friends with your neighbors...that may help quell your fears some!

I had my baby in Boone County, Missouri and also had absolutely no problems with "officialdom." We got her birth certificate and social security card without so much as a batted eyelash.
