Hello All.
I just wanted to post an intro of sorts and get some thoughts and opinons. I am an Unschooling Mama of 4, living in ontario canada. All 4 of my babes were born via section. The first not by choice, the second and third choice by fear and the 4th was an attempted homebirth (breech at 37 weeks and was admitted for unreliable lay). We WANT more children, though I must admit after reading some articles this morning I am a wee bit more nervous then I was before. We have always wanted a big family though and I am not ready to give up on that. SO how many people on here have had a HBA4C? any websites you could reccomend? groups? what are peoples thoughts and opinons?
Thank you in advance!
Hi Sarah!

As much as I would love a new baby right now, we are going to wait a couple years. I have my hands full big time with just my 3 year old alone! But, if God wants to send us another blessing sooner, who am I to argue?

Hiya - an Ottawa mummy here.

I have no extra info for you, my suggestion was also to join ICAN. There is no reason you can't go for it. They're going to try to deter you with all kinds of "it won't work anyway" garbage, but there is no reason not to go for it.

Choose your practitioner really carefully, ask what percentage of their former c/s clients are encouraged to vbac and what percentage of those succeed. The "success" (ie vaginal birth) rate internatiionally is 75% so any OB with a lesser number than this isn't supporting it properly, and any number a lot higher probably means they're being very very selective about who they "allow to try" (which is why you also ask for how many of their former c/s clients try), which is also a red flag.

A lot of them will pay lip service, because SGOC says they're supposed to support vbac, but then they'll spend your entire pregnancy undermining your confidence. A RLF in Burlington just went through this, and the "vbac friendly" OB that her fam dr. referred her to went from being completely onside, to "you know your odds aren't good", to scheduling a rcs and not even telling her, just telling her famDr. to make sure she showed up. So choose somebody with a REAL success rate so you know you're going to get support.

Better yet - if you can - get a MW and consider homebirth. Your chances of success immediately go through the roof.

And get a doula. Seriously.

GL - please KUP on how your journey progresses...

The problem with having a hba4c in Ontario is finding a mdwife to attend you. I don't think Registered Midwives will be able to, so you will have to start looking for an underground midwife.

I know home vbac is within the scope of Ontario MW practice, but I don't know about the x4.

I talked to my MW about vbac. She can catch the baby at home, this is not an issue (she's not "obliged to call an ambulance" to cover her butt like she would be with a breech), but if I want her to catch in the HOSPITAL suddenly there's a problem, because hospital policy where she has priviledges demands a transfer to the attending OB.

I have the Ontario MW vbac practice guidelines saved on my computer, anybody who wants PM me and I can email you the pdf. I believe they're on the AOM website though, they have a number of the practice guidelines posted.

Thank you all for your posts and support, this is great!
First off we were going for a HBA3C with wee oliver last March. We went through an amazing Midwife whom was truly VBAC friendly in every way. However come 37 weeks , baby turned breech and I had protein in my urine, which made for a a quick (the next day) march to the big H and a operating table. The hospital, here in ontario, would not even look at me sideways to VBAC nevermind allow it. The midwives, to cover their own bums (totally understandable) had me go for a consult at a hospital (whom would not even humour my thoughts nor would they even "attempt" a natural birth, horriable experience.) So really I never even thought for a min that I would EVER birth in a hospital. I am totally ready for any future babes to be born at home...IF I can find a Midwife that will be my support. It was hard finding my last one (being were moving we might not be able to get her again) , we phoned 3 different midwives who all told me the same thing. NO. Its really baffling and scary to me how no one wants to look at the proof , they just want to keep throwing us sect moms under the bus. Has anyone thought about Unassisted VBAC when unable to find someone who GETS IT?
thanks eveyone for the info!
Yes, there are a lot of women. I just might go unassisted next time. Not because I can't find a good MW, but because I thought I found the perfect MW before, but I got burned. I don't think I can trust another "stranger" with my births...no matter how many prenatals I go to, how many questions I ask, & no matter how many heart to heart conversations we have. You never know what kind of MW you have until your pregnancy or birth goes outside the realm of "normal".

If you want to read up on UC here are some more links:

http://unassistedchildbirth.com/

http://www.purebirth-australia.com/

http://www.unassistedhomebirth.com/

Hi there! With my last baby, I attempted a UBA4C, but ended up going to hospital after several hours with a small placental abruption.

If I ever have another, it will be a UBA5C. With all the current info out there, I know that I am no more at risk of the dreaded rupture as someone with 1 scar.

If you want a MW, have you tried Sages Femmes? They took care of me last time, though decided half way through my pregnancy they couldn't come all the way to Brampton for a home delivery. They serve the Oshawa area though.

Hey ya!
yep Sages Femmes is who I went through last time with wee oliver! Lisa was my AMAZING midwife...so awesome!!
I dont think I would have gotten through his birth had it not been for her amazing strength. Amazing. In fact I think part of the reason that I am in the mindset to do another round is becuase of her helping heal me to understand that I AM NOT BROKEN!
AMAZING.
Thanks for the links Unassited. I am seriously considering it.

Lisa was my MW as well..she really is amazing!

As for UBAC, I think it's a really great option, as long as you prepare yourself. I had some fears in my 3rd trimester that I had to work through, but with the help of the great ladies on the UBAC yahoo group, I was able to work through them.

By the time I went into labor, I was totally calm and really happy I chose that route.
