My obgyn was concerned back in April so sent me to my PCP who I had just seen two days before. They decided based on those two visits I needed a colonscopy to check for stomach cancer and polyps. Just those two things. My pcp gets me an appt with the colo-rectal guy. Makes it in April but it is in June. She tells them she wants me prioritized and get to me as soon as they can. Supposedly if they have a cancellation I get bumped. Nothing doing. I plan to have to wait at least two hours when I finally get there June 3rd and it was FIVE. They first gave me the option of not having it done ( I have had more tests than carter has liver pills lately and am tired of the whitecoats) then decide they will do the test in AUGUST. Umm hello if you are looking for some type of cancer isn't that a bit late?
Well three red flags come up and I decide he isn't the doc for me no matter how sick I may or may not be. ( creepy too)
so the one I do want to see isn't taking new patients. PCP finds me another doc who I finally get the receptionist who left me on hold a bit long -but at least she apologized for it.
They tell me I will get a call Tues morning to set the appt -no call. After I told them I needed both the endoscopy and colonscopy based on other tests and what the two docs want done. I called in the afternoon and they said it would be another 24 because it sometimes takes 48 hours ( not what you told me the first time)
BUT she did tell me that once I have the appt if I feel like it is too long I can see the next available in their practice. After I complained that if it was the c word we were dealing with or whatever why should I continue to have to wait so it can spread/metasize/etc?
And it's not just them it is any gastrospecialist office out there. WTH????
Right now I am seriously searching for a Medicine Man I don't care what tribe ...

Well they called and gave me an August 2 date for the consultation. She told me the pcp could call their triage nurse and do what they could to bump me up. They will take the eating thing in consideration too. So at least this office is trying I suppose.
As long as they don't try to test me in September-Nothing is coming between me and that beach ! We have waited too long for that and I don't know when I will ever see the coast again after this year with so much going on around the house/health and homeschool

Wow. That's a long time to wait, I hope they will bump you up. I also hope that it's not something serious.

You've got another issue though.
You don't just have a health issue. You now have a worry/anxiety/mental health issue. Whatever priority you had before is now enhanced because you are worried and facing a 1+2+ month wait.

And who should they bump? They should bump someone who is getting an annual exam. There are lots of people that get annual exams because of family history. But you are more important because you have actual symptoms!

Anyway, first available doesn't mean you are bumping anyone. It just means that when someone cancels they call you.

Sometimes, it can be easier if someone else calls for you, your husband, your doctor, a relative or friend. That person can say things that would make you sound pushy, ya know? Like, "I'm calling to make him an appointment because I'm worried. He's really not a complainer at all, he's one of the most stoic people I know. But this really has me concerned because he's hurting and not able to do ***. I was looking for any way to get him in earlier, because the wait is eating him up. " You can't say you're stoic, but I sure can!

I have been stoic all my life and kind of got tired of it if I hadn't already been on one priority please request of my dr with the git I probably wouldn't have let it get to me so much ( well that and some other things but gastro bleeding for over 2 yrs isn't a biggie I am told ) I have decided that I am over my little snit and the hell with it.
I get in when I get in and in the meantime if I need them Arianhod and Hecate are there to call on
Thanks everyone!!

I haven't heard that saying in awhile.

So basically, you went in for your appointment, waited 5 hours and still didn't have anything done? That bites the big one!

who
1) said my dr never asked them to prioritize me ( umm hey buddy I was standing next to the fax when the request went out)
2) who was a total MCP and after I had time to think about the red flags -three of them said thanks but no thanks you aren't touching me
3) He didn't listen to anything I had to say in addition so that sort of clinched it

then saw the pulmno who had test results and wanted an endoscopy done. So found a dr who could do both at the same time and he wasn't taking new patients so pcp found me a lady doc who it took some time to get an appt ( AUgust) and then they actually called this morning telling me my docs new nurse hasn't returned their calls because they want information to try and get me seen quicker after getting some history from me
Originally I fussed about waiting until August since that is only a consultation and the test will be set who knows how far out and its been since April already and who knows what is causing the bleeding and was just super annoyed so went on a rant..

Cerr s. Have you thought about calling like once a morning or once a week to 'remind' them to bump you? I had to do this with my cervical cancer for my colposcopy. It was scheduled a month out and I got lucky two weeks into the wait.
