I am so constipated! And have SO much gas!

I have no idea how to help this or what i can do to remedy it. It makes my back hurt and i just feel miserable.

Any suggestions?

i've been constipated at the end of my other pregnancies, but not at the beginning.

as someone dealing with this as well..... and also dealing with the not being able to eat much at the same time... I resorted to colace AND glycerin suppositories. granted the idea of shoving something up there made me cry but thank goddess, those wierd little things actually worked in like 15 minutes!

The only thing that worked for me was taking milk of magnesia one time daily. I tried colace and several other stool softeners but the only one that did it every time was Milk of Magnesia. My doctor from my twins is the one who recommended it.

I suffer from constipation normally, and it only gets worse with pregnancy. Here are some things I've tried...

When it gets bad, I drop my prenatal
Just until things are moving along again. I eat an apple every morning first thing. My midwife suggested it and it does seem to help. I eat my normal bfast 30 minutes or so later. Hot water with lemon in the a.m. can help. And I took flax seed oil supplements with ds the entire pg, but I ended up with a 10 lber and there is some supposition that the supplements had something to do with it (but it sure helped with constipation). I took Colace stool softener my entire 1st pg, usually 1/day, but when things got bad I'd take 2.

I've also seen mentioned magnesium supplements (I think mwherbs recommends that) and dandelion tincture, but I haven't tried either. Prune juice works well if you can stomach it. I could psych myself up and drink a cold can during my 1st pg, but haven't been able to bring myself to do it since. I can eat prunes, but they don't help nearly as much.

I hope you feel better soon...I know how miserable it can feel. And the glycerin suppositories do provide pretty quick relief when you really need it.

Milk of mag here too.

I went twelve days trying EVERY suggestion under the sun.

Including going to see the chiropractor...

So I take the milk of mag every night, I'm not sure about tolerance build up to that, but so far it works for me.

My doctor suggested more fruits and vegetables and it helped me SOOOOO much. She said colace if that didn't work- thank goodness it did.

Yoga

seriously, this position will help bring out all the gas you have (so don't do it watching TV with the kids or they'll never let you live it down.)

OMG- i just felt baby kick for first time
<ecstatic overflowing with mushy love>>

OK- best to do this on your bed.
1-hands and knees position.
2-rest your chest on the bed (get a pillow under your chest if it's too far down for you
3-spread your knees apart and arch your back slightly
4- you should feel like your rear end is wide open (and it is)

this position stimulates the colon to contract and smash up the poo into passable sized pieces.

It also forces all of the gas to "rise up and out"

It also removes any baby-pressure from your lower intestines, so there's room for things to pass.

Sit like this as long as you can. once it starts working, you will hear and smell it.

With my baby #2 I used this position like every morning and always felt better by noon.

Once things pass, you'll feel better right away.

Congratulations <me obsessively trying to perceive more movements

The zofran for my nausea made me horribly constipated. I did docusate, moved to glycerin suppositories--those just made the cramping worse, did dulcolax suppositories....again, cramping worse, still no bm. Finally in tears at 15 days without going my OB had me go into the hospital for an enema. You know it was bad when you profusely thank a nurse for essentially sticking a garden hose up your ass.
