I had a friend of ours say something along the lines of, "well I'm sure it wasn't planned..." I was a little taken aback but I managed to just say, "um yes it was." Great comeback I know!

I -wish- someone would ask me that. I'd come up with a brilliant line, like "well, I did plan on sleeping with most of those guys I guess. But for the life of me, I can't work out who the father could be. I've narrowed it down to 9..."

They ask me that EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I am prenant!
:

I don't think there is anything ruder.
And what do they mean by planned anyway?
Our bodies don't always work the way we "plan" - one can sit down and plan to fit 2 kids withing the schedule for the next 3 years, but then nothin happens. Or they get a surprise baby 3.
Do they mean "is the baby wanted?" which is an even worse thing to ask!!! Do they think people might answer "No, actually it isn't, so we are getting rid of it" Like anybody would share something like that with a total stranger?
Arghhhhhh!!

I got this question by everyone when I was pregnant at 20 years of age.
I am getting it pretty often now that I am expecting baby 6.
People simply cannot imagine someone would want and be thrilled to have a baby so young or already having so many kids.

I heard this with each of my pregnancies.

My first, I lost to miscarriage. I was out of state on vacation and went to the ER when I suspected I was losing the baby. The doctor came in and told me I'd lost the baby. I burst into tears and he looked at me and said "You wanted it?"

Um, ya I wanted it you $!&* !!!

When I was pregnant with my son, I got it a lot as I was tending bar and drunk people will say anything. The worst was from a really creepy guy I didn't like to start with. He asked "So is it a special boyfriend's or are you just knocked up?" I called him an a-hole and kicked him out of my bar. (he wasn't supposed to be in there anyway, he'd caused problems before.)

With my most recent pregnancy, I heard a lot as well. Nothing quite as rude as those two, but a lot of "you couldn't have been trying..." since they're "so close together."

Some people are just idiots.

I've gotten it quite a bit, since I'm in my mid 30's and my youngest is already in 1st grade.

Honestly, most of the time I say something about it being an awesome surprise. Many times the other person (assuming they are female) will say something about how one of theirs was a surprise and it was the best thing that ever happened, etc. I haven't had anyone say it to me maliciously...

I have been asked by family members this time around but not too many people have asked which really surprised me. But with my last pregnancy I had someone not to close to me ask me and it upset me a little.
: IMO it didn't matter whether we planned it or not, what was done was done.
