I have recently been reading about people who don't use detergent at all and simply use baking soda + vinegar (in the rinse cycle) or BS+tea tree oil/lavendar oil.

I am very interested in this idea since I currently use baking soda, vinegar and borax for almost all of my household cleaning. However, I did try BS/borax for my dishwasher detergent and wasn't impressed with the results. So, I do believe in trying it for a while, but I have decided that one cannot survive on BS alone.

I have previously heard not good things about adding vinegar to the rinse cycle when washing dipes, so I'm curious about using that as well.

if you search "no-detergent" you will pull up a LOT of threads on this, and look back in may/june of 2004 you will see a few threads about me starting with BS and how it went for me.
A year later, still using baking soda and its still going great! Any time I have tried to reintroduce detergent it has been a bad outcome.
We had stink basically from the get-go, and this was our only cure.

Thanks for advice. I'll search the threads and look forward to giving it a try.

Just one question right now, though--do either of you use bac out on poopy dipes (spray on after rinsing indiv. dipes)? I'm just wondering if this would make a difference in using the BS?

THANKS!

Sara, I have searched the archives but am having no luck finding these posts--can I search the archives by date? or would that take forever to page through?

Maybe I'm just not doing it right!

my dd might have been one of the short few, but she had MAJOR rash issues when i started using vinegar and BS inthe rinse cycle. I mean major, blistering, bleeding and very bad stuff
As soon as i suspected, i washed all her newly washed dipes again with no vinegar and BS and it cleared up right away. i don't know which one of the two did it, but we definitly can't use those in the rinse. i just put a few drops of TTO in the rinse when it is necessary. HTH!
