I have a quick question. Does anyone or has anyone used their washing machine as a diaper pail? We are moving at the end of the month and the main bathroom has the washer and dryer hookups. I was thinking that maybe I could ditch the pail and use the washer instead. Does anyone do this? Does it work okay?

Yeah...I do this. The washer is across the hall from the change room (my room..on the bed :LOL). It works pretty good for us.

I toss wet diapers right in, the poopy diapers I get the poop off and toss them in the washer. If there are 3 or so poopy diapers, I do a quick rinse (just set the washer to a rinse), or else it stinks. Every night at bedtime, I do a cold soak/rinse. Then I wash every 2-3 days.

The only problem arises when I want to do laundry. I end up trying to do diapers the night before normal laundry days (yes..I have a schedule....so? ) that way there are no diapers in the washer. I just use a wetbag for the dirty diapers until I am done with the washer. If there are diapers in the washer (wet, just rinsed) I just put them in the wetbag until I am done.

It doesn't really stink as i keep the lid down.

I end up doing that the day I know I am gonna wash. If not I use the diaper pail, so the washing machine is open for regular laundry. With 3 kids and a hubby I end up washing something everyday

Yup I use the washer as my wet pail too. I have since I started cd 2 months ago. I too run a rinse cycle at nighttime and then I wash diapers every 2-3 days. It's been really easy. It's a bit tricky when I want to do laundry but then what I do is hurry the diapers along and it works out fine.

I do laundry almost constantly so we can't. However, I will throw any diapers that get changed while I'm soaking straight into the washer. Man, I would love to have the washer/dryer hookups in the bathroom, ours are in the kitchen and I hate it. We were spoiled with a huge laundry room in our old place.

When I was considering CDing, I was worried about the extra laundry b/c we only do laundry on weekends, but that has ended up being a GOOD thing, b/c we can use our washing machine as a dry pail. We just toss wet diapers straight in, and rinse poopy diapers (after shaking poo into toilet) and then toss them in. Oh, we toss our wipes in, too. We keep the lid closed and wash every 2 or 3 days. Super easy, as our washer and dryer are in a closet off the kitchen. On the weekends, when we're doing laundry, we just line a laundry basket w/ a big towel and toss everything in there. I have considered using the washer as a wet pail, but we have hard water, and I've read that soaking diapers in hard water stains them.
