OK, I know I need to wash three times before using my CPFs, but is it:

Wash, wash, wash, dry OR
wash/dry, wash/dry, wash/dry ?

Also, do I need to prewash covers?

And, Do I need to prewash pockets, fitteds, and AIOs three times each as well?

Thanks!

I just went through this recently, and thought it was wash/wash/wash/dry. But I should've done wash/dry, wash/dry, wash/dry. The last wash or two I do not use detergent to make sure it all gets rinsed thoroughly.

I would put my covers in for one wash with detergent. And I do the same with my fitteds. I don't use pockets/aio's, but I'm sure someone else can tell you about those

It is recommended to wash/dry multiple times. Though I wonder how the drying helps with absorbency as the point of all the washing is to remove the excess natural oils and I don't see how hot air does that : .

Basically any natural fiber like cotton or hemp (most especially) needs multiple washings. So that would be prefolds, flats, and fitteds- AIOs depending on the fiber content. Things made of polyester such as fleece or microfiber (most pockets and synthetic inserts) just need one washing to get rid of any manufacturing residues. Covers just need one wash, also. I have been excited to get a new dipe in and put a pocket on with no washing, but I don't make a habit of it.

I don't put anything unwashed on my babies butt so I wash everything first. I dry in between washes not sure why. Maybe I read it somewhere!
