i'm a DC momma! I live in Adams Morgan, where are you?
i love meeting other moms. we actually have a new moms group (generally age 0-6 months) that meets on Wednesday, they post info on all the latest meetings on DC Urban Moms listserv, and there's a group email list too. PM if anyone is interested and I can get your info to the gal who sends out the info.
I don't live in DC, but in Virginia, very close. Haven't visited it a lot and now that we are on the Fall I was planning to do some trips there, the weather is much affordable now
I was wondering if you can recommend me places that my 5 month old daughter would enjoy... there's so much to do over there that it's hard to select. Any special exhibitions at museums or any kid's places?
Thanks in advance!
i go to the zoo a lot - it's free, and it's a wonderful place to walk around - there's a lot to see in one day, but since it's free i don't feel obligated to see everything - we just walk around and see whatever. and there's some lovely places to lay a blanket down on the grass and have a picnic (and take a nap under the trees) so we do that frequently too! it's nice down on the mall for the same reason - lots of grassy spots to just chill out and enjoy a beautiful day.
the washington citypaper has all the latest museum exhibits and such listed, but it's been a while since i looked so i'm not sure what's going on at the moment. they're online too at www.washingtoncitypaper.com
I didn't know the Zoo was free, for sure we will enjoy it and now I know I can take a blanket with me also
If you have any play date there before the snows, maybe I could join you. Don't count on me for the next ones though because I live 1 hour and a half from DC, lol.
I will check that link now, thanks again.
DS is 2, LuvJAH maybe we should try to get together someday.
DS loves to run around endlessly at the park. We also go to the pool a good bit - the Capitol East Natatorium is nice and they have a great kiddie pool. It's $3 for DC residents (kids under 6 are free).
I alos live near the Children's Museum, but have not visited yet. Does anyone know what it's like?
DeirdreAlison - I take my son to the park on Capitol hill often, maybe Ive seen you there. Shoot...I cant think of the name of the park right now but its the one with the new toddler equipment and I just noticed they are re-doing the part that used to have the tire swing and that metal slide. Its a dog park at the other end...know what Im talking about? Its in a circle..Mass..East Capitol.. and there is a huge statue of an a little girl.
I also sometimes take him to that new park that is right across the street from Capitol Hill Day School. Underneath 295.
My ds will be starting the Montessori program at ****** in 2 weeks. He didnt get in initially but they have a slot now and called me last week. I was so happy. I was scoping that out for him since he was 1 years old. The only thing is school started over a month ago so he's starting a little late.
Oh, and the childrens museum is great! Your ds will have a reall good time. We love going there.
et: delete the name of the school my ds will be attending...what was I thinking???
I went to the Children's Museum last week and we had a blast! My baby girl enjoyed it so much, I love how it is designed, there's activities for all ages. They have a Mexican exhibition that was beautiful and a Japanese one that was very cute. We went into a maze that has also tricky mirrors, then into a cave with paintings... fun and also they have a vet big "piano" with different instrument's sounds... My baby loved that part
I strongly recommend this museum, it's not a modern one, deffinetly is not for adults with out kids and the AC doesn't works very good but any kid can have fun there plus learn a lot.
Thanks for your recommendations. Please keep recommending
I live in Frederick, MD but my husband works in D.C. (1 1/2 hour commute!) so I go there occasionally to meet him for lunch. I lived right ocross the river in Arlington last year though... Too bad I didn't know about these Forums! Hope to meet one day!
Deirdre - My bf used to work as an occupational therapist in DCP schools and she said Capitol Hill Cluster schools are the better schools in DC. Im so glad my ds got in. Today is his first official day.
We may not have met but Im sure we have probably seen each other. Its supposed to be nice the rest of the week, although today is pretty crappy. Are you planning a trip to the park anytime this week? Maybe I'll have to make an extra effort to take ds.
