We're going on vacation to Myrtle Beach next month, and thinking of spending the day at a water park. Will there be anything I can do? Is it safe to go down slides with or without my DS? Or ride inner tubes in a lazy-river type of thing? It seems that water rides are more gentle than amusement-park rides, but would it be safe?

If I was going, I would be doing all the rides I like non-pregnant. I don't see the harm in it.

I'd probably do all the easy ones too. Just skip the "death drop" type of ones! LOL

Personally, I would skip the slides. I used to work at a water park as a ride attendent when I was in college, and lots of crazy things happen on the slides. Realistically, it's probably very unlikely that anything would harm your baby, but for me personally (having seen a number of accidents and collisions) it wouldn't be worth it. We actually didn't allow parents and children to go down together - too likely for them to bump into each other. We'd recommend the parent go down first and be there to catch the kid, and we (the ride attendents) would help the kid go down second.

But you may be comfortable with them, and it's probably fine. The lazy river inner tubes sound really fun to me!

ooh, glad somebody asked this question! We'll be camping at a family gathering (dh's HUGE extended family) during the last weekend of June and there's a water park right there as well!

from personal experience, just avoid anything enclosed. i have twice now slid down enclosed tube slides (forgot from last pregnancy) and even though i'm not all that huge yet, i really hurt my tummy muscles all hunched over. not to mention the claustrophobia, agk! but otherwise, sounds FUN!

Remember that at this point in pregnancy your uterus is still nestled in your pelvis. Even if you got hit in the stomach the chances of it having actually impacted your uterus at all are incredibly slim. I say go for it. Don't do any death drop rides or things that would REALLY get your adrenaline screaming.

Kristin I was talking to one of my friends last night about this (we've been planning an outing to Dorney this summer w/ our 3yos) and she said that her dr told her that any water slide where you are on a tube was okay...but the ones that you slid down yourself weren't.

I'm going to ask my midwife about it at my next appt. FWIW, we went to Disney when I was pregnant w/ Bethany and I did everything but spinning stuff and the roller coasters, etc.

When I read your post yesterday I realized that when we went to Dorney this summer I wouldn't be able to go on any of the coasters : ... and I LOVE roller coasters... sigh

What we give up for our kids!

Have fun on vacation!

I haven't been since before DS was born. I'd love to go to Great Adventure - some of those new roller coasters look great! Maybe next summer (or the one after that...)
