I have a La Bassine. I plan to at least labour in the water...actual birthing, we'll see how I feel at the time.
I plan to listen to my Hypnobabies CDs on a CD-walkman with earphones...but I'm thinking this could get awkward while in the tub! Where will the CD player rest...what will I do if I want to move around...etc.

I really don't like the idea of having the CD playing on a stereo - I've done the whole Hypnobabies course with it right in my ears and that's what feels right to me.

Any ideas/thoughts? My DH did suggest buying wireless earphones, but that seems like such an expense to go to that I don't see myself having a use for after.

Are there waterproof cases you could put your CD player in and then maybe it could just float in the water? I know they make them for iPods, but I don't know about for CD players. The other thought is maybe put a small table like an end table next to the tub that you could sit the player on.

Can you get earphones with really long wires and just let the CD player sit on the floor (outside of the tub obviously)? I had never thought of that, we are doing hypnobabies too and I'll probably spend a lot of time in the water.

You could get an ipod shuffle? You could clip it in your hair or high on a bra strap and listen to it that way. And it would still be useful after the birth.

CLip it in my hair! Ha! Not a bad idea...but you can't select tracks on a shuffle, so that would not do.

I asked DH about a waterproof case for the CD player, but he said it's too old (it's his from years ago), we would not find a case that would fit it.

Long earphones...good idea but I wonder if I could find ones *That* long.

Thanks for trying to think of ideas...hmmm I wonder if anyone I know has a regular iPod they could lend to me (and I could get a waterproof case for). DH used to have one but it got stolen.

I used speakers when I was in the tub. Last time I had the tracks on my iPhone. I had it playing through the iPhone speakers sitting on a little table next to the pool. I don't know about an earphone solution.... Do they make waterproof wireless earphones?

I think wireless would be good enough.
I don't see myself diving underwater! (Especially since the La Bassine has a large-lettered explicit warning printed right on it "No Diving!"
).

Lol, I was just thinking about if they fell off and dropped into the water.

I used it in the pool and it wasn't a problem. It was sitting on a chair beside the pool and it was fine. I was lying over the edge of the pool and was only in there a short time, less than 30 min. But when you're in labor it's not like you're switching positions fast and furious. Whoever is with you and out of the tub can just try to keep an eye on on the CD player. It really won't be a big deal.

Well, guess what? I am super duper lucky. Last weekend, MIL gifted us with a hand-me-down iPod - she upgraded. PERFECTO!! Now I'm figuring out how to clip it in my hair like a PP suggested.
It's aqua green - will look nice in birth photos, dontchyathink?

I used a La Bassine too for my home water birth last November. I did the Hypbirth home study course. I just practised all the techniques and listened to the CDs daily so the affirmations were firmly anchored in my subconscious. During my actual labour, I didn't listen to the discs but I used the finger drop technique (self-relaxation / anaesthesia technique) and the positive visualizations/ affirmations all throughout my (short, 4 hour) labour. I was in the tub for the last hour. I have heard from other hypnobirthers that it can actually be distracting to listen to the Cds during labour as your "contractions" may be following a different pattern/ timing than the CD and it can get distracting.
I had no pain during labour, I just felt tightening senstions in my lower abdomen, milder than period pains except for the last 4 or 5.

My husband was on "wire" duty. He brought the earphones to me when i wanted them and took them away when i wanted them away, all the while guarding the wire. I only used one earphone and he used the other though, because he wanted to be a part of it and know what was going on.
