My son has had a rash now for 8 days. It started off just looking like diaper rash. It has steadily been spreading and it now affects the whole genital area. It covers everything, it's like a continent! It does not seen to be bothering him. he does itch it when I am changing his diaper though.<br><br>
I noticed it began after he and I have enjoyed eating homemade Mac n' Cheese made from Nutritional yeast. I just introduced it to him and he really likes it, so I let him have lots.<br><br>
I have been using diaper rash cream and homeopathic rash cream which have not helped. I have an appointment tomorrow with the pediatrician to have a look.<br><br>
Any suggestions about what I should do? Does this warrant a visit to the pediatrician? Could this be a reaction from the nutritional yeast?

Has it blistered? Tracy used to get really bad bleeding rashes. The things I used that made it better were acidophilus. I took it, while bfing, and opened the capsules onto his skin. the other thigs I would use when desperate is kaopectate. The stuff you take for an upset tummy. It is an acid neutralizer. It always did the trick if nothing else helped.

DS used to get rashes so bad he had raw patches on his thighs and scrotum. Turns out he was allergic to strawberries and they were giving him horrible yeast infections. Once we cut out strawberries from both his and my diets, the rashes went away. Try a couple of days of OTC vaginal yeast cream. If it's a yeast infection, it'll clear it right up.

We put yogurt on yeast rash and it was amazing how quickly it cleared up.

Thanks for all your relpys and great advice. So far it has not blistered, although it looks like it could be going that route. I am thinking it is a yeast infection and I have upped my acidophilus and have given him some as well by mixing the power with water and letting him drink it. I did not break any tablets open and sprinkle it on him I will try that. I did put yogurt on him, but only once, so I will try that again. I am just a little discouraged that nothing so far has worked and this makes me alittle worried.

Tracy had a constant raash from about 18 months till he potty learned at 3. It was rough but those tricks got us through.

For yeast rash it's recommended to wipe baby's bum with vinegar before applying cream (or yogurt). Put 1 tablespoon white vinegar in 1 cup water, apply to cotton ball and wipe baby's bum, then apply cream.<br><br>
Yeast is nasty stuff and takes persistance to get rid of it (although I swear it never really goes away<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: ). We saw the pediatrition today. Turns out it is a yeast infection. Thanks for all your help.
