Hi mamas, our family just got a great job at the kelowna airport, so we are moving from chilliwack up to the kelowna area.

I think we want to live in vernon or lavington. We definately want a big lot and an elementary school close by. But when I go through the mls I can't tell which are great neighborhoods to live in and where the seedy areas are. I need some help, and some friends.

Thanks a lot
Are you buying a house? If so, you may just want to find yourself a good realtor in the area to guide you through the neighborhoods. The East Hill is a really good neighborhood, but that is about as far as I ever got in my research on Vernon before we decided to just move here.
Also, Winfield/Lake Country is a nice little area and it is very close to the airport.
Real estate has gone completely nuts in the area, so it might help to have someone to guide you through. Just so you know, the highway between Vernon and Kelowna can really suck sometimes. Actually, it isn't too bad just to the airport, people become stupid drivers after that.

ND mom, you're from the 'Loops? Really? I thought I was the only one :

yes we are planning on buying a house, we haven't picked a realtor yet, but we don't have the best of luck picking realtors so I wanted some first hand info from parents with kids that live in the area.

Throkmorton- are you in Vernon ? Do you have kids in school? whats the nfl lifestyle like up there? I am so glad someone responded thanks
I'm not in vernon, but we did consider moving there a couple years ago. I do go there once a month for midwife appointments.
The NFL lifestyle is ok as far as I know. I do know a couple hippie moms who live there and there are plenty of health food stores and fun coffee shops.
Are you in a massive hurry to get into Vernon? I might be seeing one of my uncles this weekend and he was a realtor in vernon for years. He's retired now. Also, my dad is a realtor and might know of a non-jerk realtor there.

well I am in a hurry lol but my house hasn't sold so I keep having to remind myself to be patient. My dh is moving up to vernon to stay with some long lost relatives because he starts work on the 24th, but the four kids and I will be down here in the valley until the house sells or after christmas.

if you have the time pm me or send me an email at lpn 25 @telus.net I would love to chat about different areas in the okanagan.

We looked at a couple of houses in Lavington, and in Lumby because realisticly we would rather be in a rural area with a little local school than a small town, but we have a big family (6 and growing ) so housing costs are high and I would rather not go back to work,
look forward to hearing from you
We are hoping to buy something once we sell our home here and now I have to consider schools! Eek! I would also love to hear about the midwives in the area..we are TTC in a few months and I've heard that some are hard to get into..How NFL is the area? DH is a chiropractor and I'm a ND so we hope to practice where we live
