And we have a plan!

We got an offer in the mail for some really low interest balance transfer checks for one of our credit cards, that will cover most of our remaining credit card balance (VERY HIGH). We have a little under $7k left on our car loan (higher interest than the CC transfer rate). The only hitch in the plan is that the card currently has a balance on it, but it is under $2k. And these offers state in the fine print that you pay off the lowest interest part of the debt first. So, it is important that we pay off that amount, so it isn't sitting making them loads of interest money!

So, step one is to pay off that balance (which we can do next week when DH gets paid).

Then, we will transfer the as much of the highest interest cards as we can onto this very low interest offer (it's a low interest for the life of the balance, too, so we're all good with that).

Step three, when our tax refund comes in, we pay off the rest of the car, and the remaining credit card debt that wouldn't fit onto the transfer.

Step four, we use the large car payment, now, towards the credit card that we transfered all our debt to, and PAY IT ALL OFF as quickly as possible!

Step five, we never, ever, ever, live beyond our means again!!!!:

I just figured out our estimated taxes which was nice to look at, now I just need to file, I did it with the free H&R block stuff and if it is all correct which it says it is, I just have to print it off and mail it in, we will have enough to pay off all but one of our debts and this months rent with a little left incase next month is as tight as this month is so far. My thing is that I wish I could e-file it but we have no credit card so I don't know how that would work in letting me do it.
But it will be nice if we could get it set so that all I have is one crazy stupid payment to take care of and that would be the end of our debt!

We used Turbo Tax this year, and really liked it. We have e-filed for the last several years. It's very nice.

I feel good that we have a plan. Ideally, I would like to get our refund down to the place where it is only a small one, but, DH got a new job this year, and we're still trying to figure out the deductions in order to achieve that. We got bit, big time about 7 years ago, and we're a little overly cautious about the deductions! I don't want to be in a situation again where we owe several thousand dollars!

So, even though we are paying too much throughout the year, and are giving the government a free loan, it's better than owing at the end of the year, and it is nice having that large chunk of cash dropping in.:

We used the HR block taxcut software they sent us. We did need to pay for the program with a CC, but to E-file, their is an option for them to deduct the amount of the e-file, like $15, from your refund check. Sending it in works as well this early in the year, you will probably get in back fairly quickly if you have it direct deposit into your checking account.

Just a word for HR Block or Jackson Hewitt users.....We used them for years. After using an actual cpa to do our taxes now, we see that those places screwed us royally. We had our cpa go back and amend our taxes for as many years back as he could and we got back an average of $3k for each year he amended! WELL worth the $ we paid him (Almost $400, but considering......)

This is only if you are able to itemize, btw. Just thought I'd throw it out there because I don't wanna see anyone getting back less than they deserve!
