So after reading through the thread on assistive communication devices and doing some of my own research, I decided to look into it for Connor. I started by calling his ASL teacher and talking to her about it, she gave me the name and number of a hearing specialist at the Special Education Regional Resouce Center (SERRC...which, off topic, I jsut can't say outloud in conversation because of my deep rooted belief in how wrong Circ is!!). I called that person and briefly described Connor. She said he sounds like a perfect candidate and told me how to start the process with his speech therapists.

Sooo...hubby took him to ST this morning and talked to them about it, and they handed him a loaner!!! ON THE SPOT!!!

It's pretty rudimentary, I haven't seen it yet, but hubby said it's got 8 windows and a laminated card that slides in and we record the words for each window with our own voices. She said that we should work with it for a while and see what he does and then we'll look into getting him eval'd for a more advanced device.

I'm so excited!!!! I can't wait to see what he does with it!
