"We don't have to, we don't we don't we don't!!" *stomps foot and sticks tongue out at reporter*

ok that last part I made up

I just feel : that we keep getting this message from women... I know it's not logical but a little innocent part of me always believes they might see through the bs...

The Family Research Institute of Wisconsin, whose slogan is "Strengthening and preserving marriage and family, life and liberty in Wisconsin." Seems that not all their representatives understand that breastfeeding legislation, and especially legislation to protect NIP, is about family, life, and liberty. Perhaps this particular rep needs to be reminded that Jesus didn't have Similac in a bottle?

Seriously. I'm betting they're "conservative." WHAT, pray tell, is conservative about minding someone else's breasts?

I mean, really. I'm a Christian. I'm a card-carrying member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy®, even. And I do not understand how any true conservative can be against breastfeeding. It's not as if they are coming at it from a Libertarian standpoint of "the government shouldn't be involved in that sort of thing" either. They're just all in a lather over titties. They should be embarassed. ANY organization that claims to be for the good of the family ought to be all for nursing! What can be better for the family than that?

"Oh, my goodness! My hubby might see your breasts and lust after you and it will break up my family ." Honestly, I wonder if that's what these anti-bf women think. Or if they are just jealous because they bottle fed or hid to avoid NIP.

No.Way. You seem so sensible and calm, and you used the word "titties"- appropriately! And I almost named my daughter Sabra. We seem to have...common ground...

and I'm a left wing radical. Can this be?

strictly speaking, she's right. :

it's still a very lame argument though.

actually, I think it probably is. from what I've observed, conservative "family values," are usually anything but family oriented. the only thing they consider a family is a white christian mother, father, and 2+ kids.

sexist, racist, homophobic, anti-science, and determained to push their sexual hang-ups on the rest of us.

[end political rant]

I left a fairly snarky comment on there. That quote drives me insane.

Ok, what part of family values excludes nursing? GRRRRRRRR

Is is because I'm using my breasts to nurish my baby, not to sell a car?

I could have posted this, word for word.

I'm a conservative, and my parents are also conservative. Mom breastfed all of us, wore us in a snugli carrier, grew an organic garden in the backyard, homeschooled us...

I am a die-hard breastfeeder and it drives me no end of NUTS when people try to use "Christian conservative values" against breastfeeding. HELLO?!!! What are you thinking???

I think if you understand that "conservative family values" is usually codespeak for "limiting women's freedom," then it makes perfect sense.

The woman quoted is probably not opposed to breastfeeding. She's opposed to breastfeeding in public. She DOES want women to breastfeed ... in their homes, which according to "conservative family values" folks is where all virtuous and respectable women belong.

I'm suggesting the problem, at base, is not really women breastfeeding. Nor is it women breastfeeding in public. It is women BEING WOMEN in public. This is what rankles, or offends, or enrages.

I googled her. apparently she was adopted at 5 months....
I posted on another forum that she must have been missing those IQ points that she never got if she had been bf'ed.

(before you think I am being all mean, I was ff'ed as an adoptee too, so I too am missing IQ points and good vision)
