Update: Now our baby has spots on December 13th. We are happy to share this mild strain with anyone who dares to venture out before, during, or after the storm!

Lukas woke up with several spots, Jasper has a few (yes there have already been tears about who has more and how it isn't fair ), and Zeben has a new snotty nose (which often is the first sign of chicken pox). So I think they're all pretty contagious at this moment. Therefore . . .

You are invited to a Chicken Pox Party!

Date: 11/30/07
Place: Our house in Northampton
Time: 11:30-1:30 p.m.
Please Bring: Your *healthy* kids, lunch
Please RSVP ASAP to my email account (lex.fletcher at gmail.com) with the subject "Rsvp pox party," and I will send you directions.

YAY!

Lex

******Wellness Policy Only kids who are 100% well can come to the pox party. No mild runny noses, no lingering coughs, etc. If your kid has been sick with a fever or stomach bug in the week prior to the party, please don't come. This policy is to protect my kids (who will already be fighting the chicken pox), and to protect other kids at the party from catching anything other than chicken pox.******
Nooooo! I have a head cold and ds is being visited by Snotia the Snot Fairy! :

Ack. I'll have to hope that someone is successful is picking up the pox at your party and by the time they're contagious, we're in the clear. (Maybe even someone in CT.)

Hey, a girl can hope.

how young is too young to try to get it? My DD will be 9 mo on 12/1. Is that too young? I haven't had her vaccinated against anything at all at this point.

We tried to expose DD when she was 13 months - but because she was still nursing A LOT she never got it. If you're breastfeeding i doubt a 9 month old would even get it, you could try though..and she might even get a very mild case.

Interesting! My ds is still mostly breastfed (at least 90% of his calories come from breastmilk, he still doesn't eat solid food everyday) at 12.5 months. He doesn't have spots yet, but he seems "off," and has a new snotty nose. I really think he's going to wake up with spots tomorrow or Saturday. But, maybe not if he's still "too breastfed" for pox!

I'll let you know! If he hasn't already got them from our exposure two weeks ago, it's hard to imagine that he won't catch them from his brothers since they were all sharing lots of saliva today.

Lukas is now pretty much covered with spots (though only one on his face so far), and Jaz still only has a handful (oh the injustice of it all!) . . . we'll see what the morning brings!

Have fun at your Pox Party today Lex!!
Hope the boys are doing ok and aren't too itchy! Let me know what happens with Zeb. I think we're just gonna hold off till Elijah's a bit older, although we debated a bunch whether or not to come and and get exposed. Hopefully the boys will be better in time for latkes! :

Wow . . . I just got off the phone with the mom of my boys' bestfriend from school. Apparently her kids aren't allowed to go to school for two weeks because they aren't vaxxed for chicken pox, and now there's been this "outbreak" in the school. : She said it's a state law so there's nothing the preschool can do about it. They have to miss school regardless of whether or not they have chicken pox. So she's bringing them over to try and make sure that they DO have it, lol.

Definitely a good reason to try and catch CP before your kids go to school (if you're planning to do the school thing).

Everything is very mild still at our house. Lukas it itchy, Jaz is fine (only about 20 spots), still no spots on the baby.

Hi Avi! We will definitely be better in time for latkes! Luke and Jaz can go back to school on Tuesday.

If you get the pox will you post it and also have a party? I'd love to expose my kids and CT is a little closer for us since we live in NY just west of Danbury.

Thanks!

Thanks for coming to those who came! I'm glad to have been able to help aid the spread of this "good" strain of CP!

The great news, for all who came yesterday, is that the baby has his first spot! It's only one so far, but it's definitely a chicken pox, so it looks like the timing of our party yesterday couldn't have been better. I'm hoping he gets a really mild case :

The big boys had more fresh spots this morning, and are quite itchy. Today will probably be the worst of it for them. As soon as dw gets back from yoga, I'm off to the library to get a new batch of Arthur and Magic School Bus videos! It really does seem to help distract them from scratching. I was just lamenting over how poor Zeb won't be able to partake in that particular "medication," but Luke and Jaz pointed out that he gets to nurse, and nursing is "waaay better than watching movies." Lol. I do have a feeling that he's going to be pretty much attached to my boob for the next few days!

Lex - thanks again! It was so nice meeting you and your boys - you have a beautiful home! How many parents from the boys’ school brought their kids over yesterday?

I agree that it seems like a really good strain...and if your guys are that rambunctious while sick I can’t imagine what a normal day in your house is like! Lol. Good luck for the next few days, and be sure to keep us posted on how everyone is doing.

We live in Westford and I’ll post if anything happens!

Nevermind about the baby's "spot." Lol. I guess that was wishful thinking since it pretty much disappeared during his nap. He remains pox-less. Sigh.

Hopefully the big kids were still contagious enough to spread it to everyone. This afternoon they seemed to have turned a corner, I think the worst of it has past, and it really wasn't that bad.

And, yes, they have, um, A LOT of energy when they're not sick!!!

Lex,

thanks again! You've got a fabulous family & home.

DaughterOfKali we went but I'm not counting on anything. dd is fairly shy and going through a clingy phase so she mostly just wanted to nurse. and, she's never had a lollipop and wanted no part of trying anything new.:

I guess we'll see in 2 weeks!
