Some friends recently asked my dh and I to sing at their wedding. They wondered if we had any ideas of good "folky" songs to sing. I was wondering if any of you could share ideas of songs that were sung/played at your own wedding, or of ones you think would be good. Don't be shy... I'm desperate for ideas!!!

"Dance Me To The End of Love" by Leonard Cohen. There's a nicely done picture book, very Picasso-ish, with the lyrics, if you can find it, that would be a good gift to go along with it all if you use this song.

If we'd had music, that would've been THE song.

Thanks so much for the ideas! Keep 'em coming! As for "folky" I just mean, "singable for two voices and a guitar" so country would count just fine. I'm just not cut out to sing opera or anything like that, yk?

Battle Hymn of love, by Kathy Mattea. I want that at my wedding if I ever get married.

I also like Truly, Madly, Deeply, by Savage Garden.

At our wedding, we played My Best Friend, but Tim McGraw & Faith Hill while the bridesmaids went down the aisle. I walked down to The Very Thought Of You by Billie Holliday, and we walked out to I Wanna Grow Old With You by Adam Sandler.

All of which would be easy with a guitar and 2 people. We got a lot of laughter with the Adam Sandler song, but it was fun.

Power of Two, Indigo Girls

Great harmonies and they lyrics are super sweet. Our recessional was a instrumental version (played live by a guitar duo) and we had the lyrics printed on the back of the program. But if we had good singers, I would have loved to have it sung. Beautiful song.

Lyrics:

Now the parking lot is empty
everyone's gone someplace
i pick you up and in the trunk i've packed
a cooler and a 2 day suitcase
cause there's a place we like to drive
way out in the country
five miles out of the city limit we're singing
and your hand's upon my knee

so we're okay we're fine
baby i'm here to stop your crying
chase all the ghosts from your head
i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
smarter than the tricks played on your heart
we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
adding up the total of a love that's true
multiply life by the power of two

you know the things that i am afraid of
i'm not afraid to tell
and if we'd ever leave a legacy
it's that we loved each other well
i've seen the shadows of so many people
trying on the treasures of youth
a road that fancy and fast ends in a fatal crash
and i'm glad we got off to tell you the truth

cause we're okay we're fine
baby i'm here to stop your crying
chase all the ghosts from your head
i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
smarter than the tricks played on your heart
we'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
adding up the total of a love that's true
multiply life by the power of two

all the shiny little trinkets of temptation (make new friends)
something new instead of something old (but keep the old)
all you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface (and remember what is gold)
and it's fools gold fools gold fools gold (what is gold what is gold)

and now we're talking about a difficult thing
and your eyes are getting wet
but i took us for better and i took us for worse
and don't you ever forget it
as the steel bars between me and a promise
suddenly bend with ease
and the closer i'm bound in love to you
the closer i am to free

so we're okay we're fine
baby i'm here to stop your crying
chase all the ghosts from your head
i'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
smarter than the tricks played on your heart
we'll look at them together then we'll take 'em apart
We had a barefoot on the beach wedding, and my brother played his acoustic guitar and sang "Tupelo Honey" by Van Morrison, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel, and "Shameless" by Garth Brooks.

I love 'Annie's Song' by John Denver. You can easily create harmony.

Is this the one that includes the line "you fill up my senses"? If so, that's exactly what I was going to suggest. Sounds very nice with just a simple accoustic guitar.
