Hello everyone. Sorry for the late start this morning. DD decided to go on a nursing marathon last night. She's been putting her fingers in her mouth alot lately, and saying "boo-boo" when I brush her teeth. I wonder if her molars are starting to come in. Oh Joy.

I went to a baby shower for a colleague yesterday. I was the only mama there. It was alot of fun: I don't usually get out to parties (DH took DD for the afternoon). I gave the new mama-to-be a sling. She doesn't speak a whole lot of English, and I won't be here when her baby is born to show her. But I hope they get as much use out of it as I do mine!

Question of the Week: how's the swelling?

Okay, lame question but I'm fresh out of ideas with my brain in a fog, lol. I've noticed my ankles starting to swell already. This didn't happen last time until well into my third trimester. Makes me wonder how bad they'll be by then, lol. I'm trying to keep drinking lots of water!

Lucysmama: just read your last post on last week's thread. I, too, have noticed much increased peeing lately, with not alot of production...lol. I think my baby's head must be on my bladder, too. I was worried at first it might be a UTI, but no pain or other symptoms (I used to suffer from them chronically, so I know one for sure when I feel it).

Hi everyone. Had a busy weekend of painting our new windows in our half-way remodeled attic (soon-to-be master bedroom/nursery). We live in an old house and every inch is covered (or was covered until Huricane Nancy blew through) in chipped and peeling lead paint. We've just replaced all of our old double-hung windows with brand spanking new wood double-hungs and they are absolutely gorgeous
. And no chipping paint! I don't even want to hang the curtains back up, I'm so in love with these new windows.... Can't wait to lie on the floor with the baby and gaze up at the clouds blowing by...

So regarding QOTW: YES to the swelling! It has been hot here in Portland, and standing around in a hot attic all weekend can really have an effect on the ankles! And mine aren't very dainty to begin with, so I feel like I have absolute tree trunks for legs these days.

I did get out for a nice long bike ride (to Portland's newest knitting shop/cafe, Mabels http://www.mabelscafe.com/ very cute place with killer lattes and a friendly staff!) and it felt so good to get some exercise. Anyone know if they make padded bike shorts for pregnant women? My butt is killing me.

Have a good week everyone!

I realized its another week, so I'll start!
Thanks yall for caring! I'm back, Praise the Lord, I was wondering!
Bad weather in Atlanta kept us in the airport for several hours, even sending planes back to the concourse. Hartsfield was shut down. I didn't get home until 2 am, things were backed up then. I'm just glad not to be stuck somewhere. Its definately a lazy day.

Wow! this baby is moving! Sometimes I will jump b/c it startles me! A different sensation like he's doing the worm or something! :LOL Or a hard one! How about I peed and got kicked and my pee stopped! :LOL I feel ya on the pee thing. I feel like I'm constantly going. And lemme tell ya, traveling and hovering over toilets in airports and restaurants is not so great. I'm so glad to plop my butt on my own.
: Well, I got the tmi award!
: :LOL I was thinking UTI myself with a little trickle here and there. I think I'm allright tho. I wonder if kegels will help....

A little swelling early; but, none now. I cut my salt and it went down. I know its gotta be hard to think of QOTW. Maybe we can help give you some ideas.

I lost track....am I 24 or so?
:LOL I lost track of days in NO. Obviously and well, I don't do that anyway, I wasn't carousing on Bourbon street. I got a romper for the baby.
Says somebody who loves me very much went to New Orleans and got me this shirt. I couldn't help myself. I keep thinking of the baby when I travel now.

I almost started the thread for you this morning Piglet, but I didn't want to hurt your feelings and take your job away.

It's been a good day for me here, I mentioned at the end of the last thread my UTI is GONE and Cranactin rocks.
I'm going to continue taking 1-2 a day to be sure I don't get another infection, I want to take no chances that I will go into labor again. Baby has a LOT more cooking to do!!! Going to my parents' for the week as DH will be underway most of the week, and this way I can have lots of help and not have to strain myself.

For anyone interested, Old Navy has maternity swimsuits on sale half price....$15!!! Gonna go order one for myself. If you spend $85 or more use promo code 73dqw2fh8d for free shipping.

Sometimes I find myself peeing more often depending on what the baby's doing. But not too often yet.

QOTW: I have slight swelling off and on if I have been sitting in the same position for an extended period of time. Otherwise, its not too bad. We are having a very cool summer this year in WI so I am not battling any heat-induced swelling.

Had an ok weekend. I have been fighting a head cold, so I laid low and tried to get some rest. I am getting to where I am going to need to get some maternity capris. So far I have been able to still where my normal clothes, but that is soon coming to an end.

Hope you all have a great week--will check back in later

Hi Everyone!

Last night Ember had a sleepover at her Aunties (it was her idea, it's the only place that she stays and I am sure it is because she sleeps with either her Auntie or her cousin Samantha who is 15 and adores her)...I didn't have a good sleep without her in our bed :LOL...kept waking up all night! She has recently been talking about sleeping in her own bed so I guess I should start trying to get used to it, although she says she is too scared to so it might take awhile.

I just finished picking about 20lbs of cherries off our cherry tree...mmmm
There are still more even! It's only our second summer in this house so it is really exciting for me to have my own fruit, and I know it's organic to boot!

QOTW- Actually so far I haven't experienced any swelling, knock on wood. My wedding ring still fits at this point, can't remember when I had to take it off last time. I didn't experience too much swelling right up until a few days before I delievered Ember, there was one occasion when I couldn't get my shoes on with the laces in them but that's about the only time I remember.

HI mamas.....

I need some goooooooood mama vibes. I am very very ill. It turns out that I DID have a urniary infection, but I didn't know it until last night, when I woke up in SEVERE pain with a high fever, and the chills. The infection had travelled out of my bladder, upward to my kidneys, and had gotten very serious without presenting many symptoms. I guess that is how Kidney Infections can happen - be totally silent and then WHAM! you are in awful pain and very ill.

I had been feeling pretty crappy for a few days, but I just chalked it up to the pregnancy. My back was really hurting me, I had that constant peeing thing (but no burning, which is why I didn't suspect UTI.) and I was really fatigued. Now that I type that out, I realize I should have put it all together, but those are all normal pregnancy complaints.

So, it was around 5am last night that I woke up writhing in pain and I had to wake up dh. I went in to be seen by a doctor, and they confirmed I have a severe infection, though I was allowed to go home and be on total rest. (No worries there - I literally cannot stand up, pick Lucy up, etc.) Baby is fine, lots of movement, and only a few BH contractions. I do have to be on very strong antibiotics, though. That makes me very unhappy. I'm a pregnancy-purist. And I have to take constant pain meds cause when they wore off I was in tears from the pain.
I spoke with my MW and she assured me that she would have recommended the same course of action. She is also getting me some herbs and probiotics as a safe measure. So for now I am home, unless the infection worsens.

Please send me some healin' vibes....I am really freakin sick.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and so sorry to be a downer!

hello all you beautiful bellyfull mamas!
I am new to the list but have been reading for a while and am so relieved to find a place to share all the "adventures" of being pregnant. This will be my third babe and our little gal- yes they say it's a girl- has been long awaited for!!
As for the UTI's--- I am absolutely sending good positive healing vibes your way! Having a UTI is horrible enough when you aren't pregnant.

QOTW- only swelling when the humidity is way up there, so it hasn't been too often.
What I do get are leg cramps in the middle of the night. They are pretty mild if I catch them in time and flex my foot right away.

Have a good week everyone

Oh Katie I'm so sorry.
At least you didn't go into labor though!
I bet you will be feeling much better tomorrow after the antibiotics take effect.

And yep Letia, the UTI caused my PTL. It's apparently not uncommon, so if you ever have any signs of one, get it checked out quic! Though I have to say I had zero symptoms and never would have known it if it hadn't been for the PTL.

Thanks amy -
Glad you are feeling better too.

My MIL is watching Lucy, because I cannot do it. As bad as it sounds, I don't even wanna play with her right now. It's too much. The pain is very localized (in my lower back and side - my right Kidney is the infected one.) but very debilitating. Ok, enough computer. I'm going back to sleep.

We were having computer problems last week. Every time I tried to post, the web browser would crash, so I'm now a week behind. Several times I had just finished typing out a long post or email only to have Internet Explorer crash everytime I went to hit send/post! Frustrating!

Amy and Katie, I unfortunately get the join the UTI club also. I've had infections in the past, but this was nothing like what I'm used to. No burning or stinging, just an overall achiness and tenderness in the abdominal area. I hit the CranActin pretty hard after reading some of Amy's first posts and everything was okay within a day or two.

I was happy to avoid antibiotics with the UTI and just when it cleared up, I went to the doctor about a big purple spot on my leg that had been there since camping a week prior. As it turns out, I was diagnosed with Lyme's disease. Lyme's disease in pregnancy can have some pretty grim outcomes, so I was immediatly put on a whopping course of antibiotics. Three whole weeks of a relatively high dose of penicillin. Yeast infection, here I come!
: Anyhow, there's no way to tell for sure if it is Lyme's or something else, but its not worth taking chances. There is a blood test, but apparently it takes up to a month or longer for your body to produce enough antibodies to get an accurate test. Since I'm pregnant, waiting isn't advisable. Even my midwife, who is very conservative when it comes to the use of many medications, strongly urged me to start the antibiotics ASAP.

I've only been on the antibiotics since Friday, so in the meantime I'm taking mega doses of probiotics and still also doubling up on the CranActin. I hoping to ward off the nasty little yeasties, but I honestly don't have much faith...I'm afraid that a yeast infection is going to be inevitable given how prone I am to getting them even when I'm not pregnant and on antibiotics...

QOTW: No noticable swelling yet...knock on wood!

On an unrelated topic, I scored some great maternity clothes this weekend. Someone my mother knows gave her two large boxes filled with maternity clothes. Some of them were pretty hideous, but there were still MANY useful and nice things. I also bought some very stylish outfits at a garage sale. While cleaning out my closet yesterday, I realized that I now have way nicer, more up-to-date, name-brand (not that it really matters), and just a better overall selection of maternity clothes than I have in my regular wardrobe! Not bad, considering that most of it came to me for free or very inexpensively. Being able to dress a bit nicer has kind of uplifting in a weird way, so I told my husband that after the baby's born we're going to have to find a bit of money to update my regular clothes and get rid of many of my old raggedy and sloppy-looking clothes.

Uh-oh, I hear someone waking up from their nap...let's hope that the computer doesn't crash right as I go to submit this reply again!

24 weeks!

Oh, lucysmama...I'm so sad to hear that you are so sick!!!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Antibiotics really work their magic quickly, so I'm sure in no time you will be feeling MUCH better.

Hugs to the rest of you fighting UTI's too.

sunshinegal: glad you delurked to post with us!

trueblue: thanks for the tip on the maternity swimsuits. There's a water park opening near us on July 10 and I know DD will want to go. I was thinking I have nothing to wear in the water, but didn't want to spend $$$ on something I'll likely use only a handful of times...I'm heading over to the Old Navy site to check them out.

Oh Katie and Futuremama, I hope you recover quickly! I hate hearing about you guys getting sick. As for me, I still haven't heard the results as to whether or not I had a UTI, but I've been taking the antibiotics anyways, just to be on the safe side. My midwife was warning me about how easily a kidney infection can sneak up on you in pregnancy, since the symptoms for UTI can be veiled.

QOTW: I noticed some swelling in my feet the other day after being on them for a long time, but other than that, nothing. With the last preg., I didn't swell up until after the delivery, and then my feet and ankles were huge.

We had a nice relaxing weekend. Dh let me take a nap, and that was so nice. He also went on a cleaning rampage in the kitchen and is so proud of himself. He does this about once every 6 weeks. He decides to clean and organize and then talks about it incessently like he should get a medal or something. I'm not complainin' though, the kitchen does look nice.

Embersmom-about the screen name change, I like Autumnbabes too. I also like any combo of your kids' names like, OakEmbers or something. Maybe that's too cheesy, I don't know. I'm gonna change mine too eventually. It's too long anyway right now.

I feel for those of you with an UTI-I had one early already and only get them when I'm pregnant, I'm sure I'll get another before all is said and done!

No swelling here but I usually never do-knock on wood. But my belly definitely expanded in the last week! My main 2 prs of pants that fit last week are way too tight this week
Alas, it was bound to happen I guess since they weren't really maternity-just stretchy larges-those will go into the post partum pile...

Did I mention last week that the official move day is July 31?? yippee-we'll fly to Seattle then have to close on Aug 2 on the house-can't move in until Aug 5 for some reason but that's fine-at least we'll BE THERE!

Just twiddling my thumbs now waiting to get moving! I don't have to pack since we have one of those deals that they move everything! They actually ask that you don't pack anything so they can be better organized-fine with me! With DH gone all week it gets a little stressful but we're hanging in there

Take care

Holy smokes! I made it to the third trimester! Yay!

Katie and Futuremama - I am so sorry to hear about the UTIs. I hope you both get better soon. I really had no idea that UTIs were so common during pregnancy. Sending healing vibes your way!

QOTW: I had to take off my wedding rings last week and know wear them on a chain around my neck. And by the end of the day my feet get pretty swollen and uncomfortable. But I am naturally prone to swelling even when not pregnant so it's no surprise.

Amie - Why do our kids have to grow up so fast!

Had a bad converstion with my mom last night. I tried to explain to her that we are thinking that we don't want any house guests until a week or so after the baby's born and she freaked out. We live in a small two bedroom condo and we are hoping to have a very peaceful and calm transition time for our family (my mom and I have not had a very calm and peaceful relationship. the last 2 times she's been down to visit she has threatened to cut me out of her life forever). But my mother kept going on and on about how painful it will be for her not to be here. I tried to explain to her that we felt the Alias would best be able to adjust to having a baby brother if he had no other disruptions in his routine but she just kept talking about how hurt she will be. I then tried to explain how difficult it would be for Alias to get ready in the morning and go to his new daycare (he'll be starting half day toddler care three times a week in September) with a new baby in the house and his grandmother sleeping in the living room (she refuses to sleep in the spare room, too many toys). She then got angry with me that I would dare send Alias to daycare while she was here (she wants to stay for 2 and a half weeks). Right now I'm at a loss as to what to do. The way I feel right now, I don't want her down here at all. Her reaction to my arguments seemed to confirm any suspicions that I had that her comming into town for 2 and a half weeks would become a huge stressful disruption during a time when I feel that things should be as calm and as peaceful as possible. But I hate that my mom is feeling so hurt. And I hate that she is continuing to manipulate me even though she is 3000 mile away! Aaarrgh!

On a more posistive note... Welcome sunshinegal, so glad you joined our little goup.

she should really respect your wishes though. You'll just have to tell her that she is welcome later; but, not at that time. If she can't respect your wishes, then maybe you need to revisit her coming at a later time. I hate for your to tell her she's not welcome at all...so maybe yall should discuss it later if she can't respect your wishes.

Moms know how to push our buttons, don't they?

Katie and Futuremama: a candle burns for you mama's tonight!

Welcome to sunshinegal!
No swelling so far, sometimes when I wear my chaco's it feels like my feet are on the verge of swelling, that or pruning.

This weekend was nice, massage and adjustment on sat. Followed up with 18 holes of puttt putt in the cruel heat, a yucky bison burger (what was I thinking) and some rocking ice cream from coldstone creamery

Sunday was spent at Stone Mountain, which is exactly what it sounds like a HUGE stone! It was a really nice time (although we were stuck on top of the mountain in a lightninig storm for 45 minutes) Got some really cool photos!

Well, thanks to you loving mama's vibes looks like we'll be closing on our house in the next 2 weeks! I'm telling you, we are some powerful creatures while gestating especially

Trying real hard to stay connected with Miles while my mind has been on so many other things.. He's such a beautiful child, I wish I could put things on pause for a few days.

Mirthful, sorry about your mom
They bug sometimes huh?

Mirthfulmum-I feel for you girl!
I said the same thing to my mom with my first 2 babes and she threw a fit about how rude she thought it was...I had also said visitors could only come between 10am - 5pm since after 5pm I was wiped out and this ticked her off that she had to stick with "visiting hrs" I still hear about that after all these yrs. I just ignore it.
In some ways I'm so glad to moving across the country
Of course, she'll be there for thanksgiving which will be just 3 wks after this one is born and my DHs parents are coming about when it's due so we'll have someone to watch the kids just in case we need it-I really hate having to ask them to be there but since we really won't be there that long to know people to ask them to take our kids for overnight potentially we thought it was wise. I'm just hoping I can hide out and they'll spend time with the other kids and leave me and the babe alone most of the time...we'll see
OK, enough rambling, off to bed
Ann
