Happy Holiday Season to all!! We're having a very lean holiday season. A few gifts for DS and maybe somehting for my parents and DH's mom. But nothing else!! If we have any extra money we may get ourselves a new toilet for Christmas!

I've been trying to decorate for the holidays but can't seem to make it work with lights and my DS. Must do it after he goes to bed. We'll be cutting down a tree together at the end of the week. I'm going to just have lights and Lochlan and I gathered some pinecones today that we'll paint and glitter for decorations!

Yay for December!
I'm not doing too much decorating this year. Partly because we are going to Idaho for Christmas and I don't want to have to clean up decorations plus pack for 5 people to go to Idaho, and partly because we're moving-maybe very soon. And I don't feel like decorating and having to undo all that plus packing.
We're having a lean holiday season this year too.
I'm really excited about it though. Ever since dh has had a good salary, I've fallen into the trap of going to buy things for everyone for Christmas. This year the kids and I are making treat assortments to pack into pretty tins for everyone. We'll make chocolate peppermint bark, gingerbread people, pinwheel cookies, and fondant mints. We also plan to make little trinkets out of salt dough for each family member and put them in a Christmas Cracker. We are really looking forward to it all. Should be fun.
My kids are just disappointed that there's no snow. Of course, we live in Portland Oregon, so no surprise. I think they are hoping for snow in Idaho. Should happen.

Is everyone pretty much feeling better now that we are farther along? I hope so.
I'm feeling pretty good except for my pelvic pain. Still in wonder though that I'm actually pregnant and there is a little person growing in there. Amazing!

We have a moratorium on holiday decorations before Dec 1 here. DH is off today but it's raining. Maybe tomorrow he'll get our Christmas lights back working! (They're up all year round, but during the holidays he has them on a nifty remote signaler that I can turn on and off with the other button on my garage remote.) We'll be going to cut down a tree on Dec 12 (no chances before then) and hopefully doing some baking.

We're having a lean Christmas here too. No family visiting except MIL and a friend who works here and lives elsewhere is scheduled for work over Christmas so we invited him as well. Gifts will be few but hopefully meaningful for immediate family, friends will be getting baking treats and other home-made goodies like RasJane plans to do. Should be fun!

(Oh, and the only reason we can afford our yearly vacation is because my parents are paying for half and going with us this year so they can spend time with DD!)

And a new toilet sounds divine! We need one here too! (One that isn't 4 different colours!

Add me to the lean list of Christmas. We're going to Maine sometime in Dec. after Christmas and luckily our car only costs $15 to fill up so it'll be a pretty inexpensive trip. We weren't able to do much in terms of gifts and its so hard because people on my side of the family expect gifts that THEY want, so they're all getting $25 gift cards. DS is pretty much taken care of but I'm looking for some wooden cars for him and maybe a bilibo. Dh and I don't do gifts for each other but he really wanted to this year, I'm hoping next year is an easier year for us.

I haven't really mentioned this much over here but we got news that DH may be deploying early, right before this babe is born. He was originally supposed to be here until late fall '09, so we're kind of shell-shocked right now. We should find out late this week, but he would stay behind for 2 weeks and hope that a baby came in that timeframe. If not he's going to end up missing the birth, which is the last thing we wanted. I know he's feeling really devastated but we're holding out hope for good news
:

Speaking of toilets, DS flushed a toy down our's sometime in the last couple of days and it has been flushing weird. I think I finally fixed it last night

Thats difficult news Katie
My cousins DH was set to deploy at the time of her DD's birth and was away at training just before she went into labor. He was on his way home just as she was going into labor so he got to see his daughter and then found out that he was no longer being deployed!
(He is currently in Afghanistan and my cousin got pregnant again on his 2 week leave!! He'll be home in one month. So excited for them!!)

Maybe things will change?? Do you know where he is going?

Oh, and where in Maine will you be coming for the holidays?

Little boys and toilets.......mine flushed an apple down a few weeks ago and we had to call a plumber after a few unsuccessful snaking attempts. Our toilet is functional just ugly. Tan with a brown seat (yuck!) and its not a low flow so its wasteful. Plus DH wants a "man toilet" the kind with the extended bowl.

Things really do change all the time, for that I am certain. Deployments always get pushed back, so it is unlikely that he'll leave when they say he will (I hope). He is part of brigade leadership so they depend on him a little more to be available. I can't give specifics because of OPSEC, but he is not going to Iraq. He'll be in the middle east/central Asia though.

We're heading to Saco to visit the great grandparents and my MIL's family, they live right by the beach so its always a nice little vacation for us.

at the man toilet. We had man toilets in our last house, I haven't noticed if they're the same here.

We'll be celebrating in Salem with my family
I'm excited to be able to take a few walks and not freeze my butt off. We'll be there a week, so we plan go to the coast at some point, this time near Tillamook. I can't wait to get the ice cream
we normally go straight over to Lincoln City.

I love peppermint bark! Except I like white better...even though it's not real chocolate.

I am feeling MUCH better. Still have regular heartburn but have given in to Zantac
. Getting over a cold.

We may go light on decorating too, not sure. I need to get things out. I have two pencil trees that don't take up much space in our apartment.

that is nice! I think my family may do that in the future too, so they can see us. It's a little easier than them coming out ot see us, with their dogs and my special needs brother.

We do a name exchange with siblings so that cuts down on some costs. I'd say we're lean for the number we have. We average $35-40 per person.

katiejd, I'm so sorry that your DH may have to miss the birth!! Huge disappointment!

Well looks like we're moving again on December 15th, this time on post. So I guess it looks like I better start packing.

I said something in front of one of the in-laws about switching from an OB/GYN practice to midwives. She said, "Oh my God, [my name], are you crazy? Midwives?"

Yes. Midwives. And they even let them catch babies in the hospital! Imagine!

I've deployed twice, and both times were about a month later than the original date we were given. The first was nearly two months later! I will be thinking of you and hoping the same for you and DH.

And once I'm OUT of the service, we'll be heading to Maine too! Only for a move, not vacation
Hoping hoping hoping (!!!) that this happens before the 1st of January.

Lean Christmas here too. I usually try to do it that way, but DH'S family judges love by the cost of the gift, so we usually feel forced to buy more than we want to. They, of course, just write out checks, no forced shopping expeditions and weeks of wondering waht the $#(@ to buy people in their
70s who expect fabulous presents but need nothing. Ok, that's my holiday rant! Oh, and did I mention, if the gift is not fabulous enough and if we don't spend equal amounts on each person, we get the silent treatment?
:

I got DS mostly books from the thrift store, a child's table and chair (also thrift store), a few tools, a pretend coffee maker, and a pair of Thomas the Tank Engine shoes. I can't wait to see how excited he's going to be

Katie, what's a bilibo?

Lotus, we had a bout of apple flushing this summer...C. flushed several apples down over the course of a week or so...they didn't seem to f- things up, really...they just flushed right down...I wish you the best in this!

We are always lean during Christmas. We are not consumers, in the least. I always end up feeling a little sad and a little guilty after the holidays (sometimes in the midst of the holidays). I make most of my gifts...I give lots of jewelry (which I make...) too. Jams, salves, burned cd's...things like that. Hopefully by next year, I'll be able to knit and crochet.

I battle with what I'd like to teach my children about the holidays. I would lean more toward the solstice celebration side, but it is hard with family that doesn't even recognize that realm in the least.

I heard the baby this week...a solid 160 bpm. It was nice to get a count, this time. My doc. was very patient w/ the doppler. DP and DS were there to hear the hb, too, but DS didn't really seem to care about it. I was a bit disheartened by that...he is only two........

I had my 16 week appt. yesterday and everything looked good! I've gained about 6 pounds total and got to hear the babies heart thumping away. We toured the birth center and it is awesome! I can't wait to have my baby there. We used a different birth center last time and this one just has a much better vibe to it. I'm scheduling my Level 2 US for 3 weeks and I'm really feeling like caving and finding out. I'm not going to but I am thinking of having the tech write it down and giving it to my hubby for Christmas. He really wants to know and I don't. I don't think it will stay a secret though so I'm still on the fence. I have a cardiologist appt. on the 15th to check out my newly discovered heart murmur? I'm not concerned but it has to be evaluated before I can deliver at the birth center. I am feeling the baby daily now which is very reassuring. I hope everyone is doing well.

This is a bilibo. We were originally thinking of getting him a chair since he's always using weird things to sit on, but I think he will find a lot more uses for this and it allows for a lot more creativity. I used to see co-ops for them all the time but not so much anymore.

That bilibo looks perfect for my son!! He is the king of making anything into a toy. I like the concept of open ended!

Ugh. Why am I awake this early? Every day this week I have been waking up about an hour before my son! Usually he is dragging my @ss outta bed. Its been 5 or 5:30 but this morning I woke up at 3:30 with no chance of falling back asleep so I'm here surfing and catching up on my dvr'd shows.

I have had a nasty cold for the last week. After the first few days I thought I was getting better then it got worse and now I am in the coughing/nose clearing stage. I swear I have been sick more in this pregnancy that I have in the last 10 years! And my pelvis is so sore right now. We have to drive 3 hrs round trip to take my MIL back to the airport. Leaving at 8am. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. At least I'll have my house back to myself. AND I found a chiropractor who will take me and my insurance.....so here's to sweet relief!

Sounds like me. This week I've gotten up at 4:30, 6, 7, and 7 again today. I don't have a job I have no reason to be up that early! I'm waking up every 2 hours during the night too so I just feel so exhausted by the afternoon. I'm going to get enough of this come May, can't I just get my rest now please?
