What's going on this week ladies?

I'm measuring at 35 weeks but am 30 weeks. The midwives rechecked to make sure and there is a foot way up there knocking me up to the 35 week mark. I feel ready, all swollen and tired. But i need to finish out my semester. Once school is done i will put some focus into this babe coming.

It's been a busy couple of weeks. My dad has been in the hospital and they almost sent him home today -- I'm glad they didn't! I had an appointment with an "earn while you learn" parenting program, and then my first appointment with a new counselor. Yesterday, I met with a lady from the local Parents as Teachers program. I'm hoping that tomorrow I can take a break from running around.

Oh, yeah, I turned 21 yesterday.
It was a very quiet birthday, since most people were working and I couldn't drink, anyway. I still got to wander around town with a friend.

Nudger and I are still measuring on track -- I'll be 28 weeks on Tuesday. Yikes.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

I've had a pretty good week. My short term disability company finally approved my claim since I have been home on modified bedrest for the last 4 weeks. I also had an appointment with my midwife on Monday and they repeated my cervical length u/s and everything looks great. While they were doing that they also decided to check the position of my placenta and it is no longer low lying, but still anterior. To me that is great news. They want me to keep taking the Nifedipine to keep the contractions under control and I will go back again in 2 weeks.
I still can't believe that I am 30 weeks though. This pregnancy is just flying by and my nesting instinct is in full swing. I have a long list of things I want to get done before baby's arrival and I am slowly plugging away at them and having DH take care of the things that I am not able to.
And spring has finally found us. It has been in the 80's the last two days and just gorgeous.

Serene, happy belated birthday!

Avani, sure it isn't twins? hehe

Things have been kind of crazy here. So much going on... I even had a hospital visit for a few hours Sunday night. I'm looking forward to my next u/s on Monday to see my cervical length. What about the rest of you?

Happy Birthday Serenekitten! Wow, 21...that's a big one. I think that, combined with the baby in waiting officially makes you a grown-up...which is way more than I was at that age! I hope you had a great day and wishing you a wonderful year!

This week...lets see...yeah, not much to report. My midwife came for a visit on Monday and we had a long talk about nothing pregnancy related - but it was one of those conversations that made me realize why the universe brought us together. I have finished and started a couple of sewing projects and am totally loving my new machine. My last one was a real piece of poo-poo so almost anything would have been an improvement!

I have developed a terrible lower back pain that I am working on...any tips, mamas? I am trying heat, begging for back rubs and a little yoga. What am I missing?

How is everyone's nesting coming?

Spring has finally sprung, so I've been outside getting projects done. I'm on a crazy cleaning and organizing streak so that maybe my life will be a little more sane/managable when the baby is here.

I had a friend have a baby boy on Monday, and seeing him really makes me feel a little jealous. I don't want this baby to come out right now or anything, but I really feel like time is dragging by and sneaking up all at the same time.

I am 29 weeks on Sunday and up about 21 pounds. I haven't gained at all lately, so I'm worried that I might gain a LOT in these next 10 weeks.

I've been knitting and sewing for the baby, but I'm really coming to an end on a lot of projects.

I've got 3 rabbits that should have babies soon and a bunch of chickens to butcher on June 13. They are all taking up a lot of time with dd2.

I'm thinking this baby is head down, but I won't know more until my next appointment on May 11.

We are still unpacking
I am trying to go through all the clothes I will NEVER wear again (after 2 pregnancies, I really don't think I need to keep my size one and three jeans.. if I ever DO wear that size again, I will buy new pants to celebrate!), organizing 4th trimester clothes, clothes I WILL be able to wear again, but not for a little while after the birth, and going through baby clothes. I still need to organize the boy's room- it's a disaster. Well.. the whole house is a disaster... that's what happens when you move into a place 1/2 the size you were living in.

I started a hypnobirthing class on Monday.. Tuesday I was officially 30 weeks, and I have a new doula because my doula got an offer on her house and will be moving
But my new doula will be awesome.. she's a massage therapist

Serenekitten- Happy Birthday!!
:
LindsC- Good news! Keep that baby in!

I have officially begun the third tri and am very excited, but since my nesting instinct is non-existent I am starting to freak out about everything I need to do. Although not enough to actually do any of it.
I figure if the baby can eat, poop, and stay clean and comfortable that's all that matters.

DH and I are STILL struggling with hb vs. hospital. I think we both want hb but stupid fears keep cropping up- like our Bradley class teacher telling us her last 2 hb couples were the ones in the class that had c-sections, and a doc recently telling a story of a mama bleeding out in 5 minutes at home. We live 15-20 minutes away from a hospital, so that is really our biggest concern. Next week we have a long visit with both mw's scheduled, so hopefully we can make a decision before the baby comes...

Otherwise I am unmotivated to get my manuscripts finished and just want to bask in the sun, pull weeds in the garden, and watch the river flow. And sleep. Despite the discomforts and complications of pregnancy, I have to say I love it.

Happy birthday serene!
:

Well lets see. As of today I am 30 weeks. I finally feel fairly normal again after a rough several days of pain! Glad that's over with, but I won't be too shocked if it comes back at some point.

I felt my first braxton hicks last night (that I know of anyway). It was totally weird!

We had our Bradley class yesterday and it was a good one, we practiced some pushing positions and talked all about the second stage of labor. Now I'm ready to practice the positions and see what feels the most comfortable for me, even though I am sure everything will change once I am in labor!

It looks like it might rain in Austin today, I kinda hope it does, I really love the rain, especially when it's warm out, and my tomato and zucchini plants really like it too! I also love thunder and wouldn't mind a good storm today or this weekend.

I need to start thinking of sewing projects! I gotta get some stuff in before the baby is here.

This weekend we are going to finish emptying the nursery and paint, exciting!

That seems so weird to me that they'd tell you all the "horror" stories in bradley classes.... if I were you I'd check out spiritual midwifery or any Ina May book and read some POSITIVE birth stories. There are lots on http://www.pregnancybirthandbabies.com/ as well. To me, it's all about the positive of positive thinking- I can't believe a bradley teacher did that!

We're doing great. I'm feeling huge, but I was able to get TWO free massages at a massage school, so that was pretty great!

I am surprised at how quickly this 2nd pregnancy is going. I guess having a 2 year old helps! I can't believe we're already in the THIRD trimester.

I need to start freezing meals and such!!

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow - due mid July and am feeling great! I'm feeling the baby move more strongly and am beginning to feel connected
We started our Birthing from Within classes this past Wednesday....that is making it seem more real. I have signed up for 4 private pre-natal yoga classes starting this coming Tuesday (no one in my area offers prenatal yoga). I'll do the yoga every other week.

We're busy every weekend through May.... which will make May fly by.

We have a midwife appointment on Monday. Will be getting the rhogam shot and hoping everything is measuring still on track. I've gained a bit of weight this pregnancy (my first) but really feel it is fine. Obviously we've both needed it.

My ankles get pretty swollen by the end of the day. I'm officially wearing only 1 pair of shoes (croc like shoes) with everything. My hands/fingers hurt so bad at night (what I'd think arthritis would feel like?) but goes away once I am up and shower.......

I've begun peeing every 40 minutes, literally. It feels as if I spend more time in the bathroom than I do working. oh well.

Now its time for me to start looking up all of the maternity laws in my state, figure out how maternity leave works (at work) for insurance premiums, etc. and possibly short term disability and if it is available to me for staying home for 12 weeks.

I'm so excited to meet this little one. OH and we need to get some more names down on paper......... we've got a good list of boys names....now just need girl names

Oh my! It is depressing me to read about all of you getting ready for baby. I feel soooo far behind!!! We have done NOTHING yet to get the room ready. We are going to move my son in with his sister and then start setting his room up for baby. However, I want to clean out HER room to make some room for his stuff. AHH!! I'm hoping that I can be VERY, VERY productive in May and June on my days off (between yard work, gardening and planting some flowers too!) I just bought the bedding set for the crib the other night online while I was awake during the middle of the noc!! lol!

I have a dr appt this week and haven't been to her in 6.5 weeks due to her being out of town and my work schedule being crazy. So I am kind of looking forward to that. (Hoping I haven't gained too much!!) Recovering from the flu this weekend which affected both my son and me. Boy was it a weird feeling to be so nauseous and then have something doing flips in my stomach at the same time!! Thanks for all of your updates ladies (maybe they should motivate me!!) lol

No nesting for me and i have done nothing to get ready either. But really to me there isn't much to get ready. I don't have a seperate room for the baby, i cosleep, and clothes are being sent my way. Really all the other baby gear is not essential for a baby coming. It's fun stuff don't get me wrong, but not essential. I don't have family or anyone throwing me a babyshower so what i have is what i have. I would love for nesting to kick in so i could deep clean the house though! I do need to gather things for my birth kit as well and having some casseroles would be a good idea.

SK- Happy belated bday!

LizzyQ- I am planning on doing the same thing. Just donating clothing that I haven't worn since becoming a mom, b/c let's face it. I probably won't fit into them again and even if I do, they won't be in style anymore!

Linda- I'm glad your disability kicked in for you and you are able to stay on modified BR.

As for me I'm 27 wks now. I am carrying this baby freakishly high, like up by my boobs. I joke with my DH that it looks like a fake pregnancy, like I shoved a basketball up too high under my shirt. Everyone who has seen me pregnant before (carried my other two pregnancies super low) has commented on it. The u/s tech said at my 20 wk that this is a boy, in the back of my mind, I still think there is a chance this is a girl, b/c this pregnancy is just so different from my other two (boys) and I felt that the penis shot that the u/s tech was not a very good one, even my DH admits that he does not trust the pic (side view, she was unable to get a true toilet shot) that she used to determine that this is a boy.

You guys are probably sick of hearing me whine about being upset that I'm not having a girl. I found another online forum that has helped me a LOT with this issue, and I'm slowly starting to get better. One thing that helped a lot was last night my DH saw a newborn baby on tv and told me that he can't wait to snuggle with this baby. He is one of those guys who LOVES to hold babies (which I always thought was weird, but very sweet, I am not much of a newborn person though), and it made my heart melt that he is looking forward to this baby so much.

Well, I haven't vomited for about 2 wks, BUT I still feel nauseous pretty often, and if I skip my zofran, I feel really, really bad. So, I am still taking meds for my n/v. I'm excited that SPRING finally arrived and I have been able to break out some of the warm weathered maternity clothing that I got on clearance last yr to wear. The stuff is so much cuter than the maternity clothes I had for my other two pregnancies, maternity clothing is more, "hip" looking now than it was 5-6 yrs ago, kwim?

As for house projects, the baby's rooms still looks awful, BUT we finally finished our 5 yr old's room this wk and it looks sooooo cute! We are going to recycle his decorations for the baby's room. DH is going to work on our window and door moldings outside this wk and then he will probably start next wk on removing the wall paper in the hallway bath. I am looking forward to these, "big" projects being finished before June. The nursery will probably get done at the last minute, but it's no big deal, b/c the baby will be sleeping in our room at the beginning anyway.

Oh and good news! I think I found the perfect matron of honor gown! I am going to run it past the bride tomorrow, but I had the opportunity today to try on a gown that I have been interested in (can't believe the store carried maternity gowns?!?!). It is not the same brand as the one the bride originally wanted, BUT it comes in the color she wants (she doesn't care about the style, but wants the bridesmaids to wear the same color), I can actually wear my nursing bra with it (you would not believe how difficult it is to find an gown that can accomodate a nursing bra, b/c so many are strapless and/or very low cut, you can't even wear a normal bra), I can nurse the baby (who will be 1 month old at the time of the wedding) w/o having to partially strip by pulling the bodice over to the side a bit, it is affordable (will cost me less than $120 total including tax and everything, which I think is fantastic), AND it is very flattering style! I would wear this gown even if I weren't in the situation I am in! Even though it is considered a maternity dress, non-pg women can wear it and the ladies at the store even said that they sell it more to women who are NON-pg than woman who are pg and didn't even realize it was a maternity gown until after a few clients had already ordered it as a, "normal" gown. Here's a pic...

http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesm...aidLineDefault

I think that the pic does not do the gown justice, it looks a lot better in person and best yet, the sample size they had my try fit me prefectly, so I know what size to get and the only alterations I think I will need will be a hem, b/c the empire waist is very forgiving, if it can accomodate my belly now, I KNOW it will look fine (at the belly) when I have the baby and there is a little bit of extra room in the bosom, so if my breasts are slighly bigger, I should still be ok. So, anyway, I have been totally stressed out about this bridesmaid gown and I feel like such a large wt has been lifted off of my shoulders. I am just crossing my fingers that the bride will agree to this dress. The other bridesmaids have not ordered their gowns yet, so if she likes this line, she may even switch over, but I compared the swatches for the color of the two brands and they are soooo close, the fabric will be the biggest difference (I think the brand she likes is mostly satin stuff, the one I want to get is a nu-georgette fabric, so not shiny looking). The ladies at the shop also mentioned that since I'm the MOH, ppl won't think it's odd if my gown looks different from the other two bridesmaids. Cross your fingers for me that the bride is ok with this dress. The brand she wanted, everything was strapless and not nursing friendly at all (would req me to strip and go somewhere private to nurse)... so I wanted to look on my own and find something before asking her if she would consider something else in the same color.

Who is your doula and who is teaching your class?

Ooo, also, Utah moms, there is going to be a picnic at Liberty Park in Salt Lake this Saturday at 10:30 (bring your own picnic and blanket) to celebrate International Midwifery Day. It will be at the North East side of the park if you want to come. PM me if you have any questions.

My doula is a girl from my SLCC class (they have a doula class), her name is Jessica. My class teacher is Claire (I forget her last name).. at the U.

Cool.. maybe I can make it to the thing at LIberty Park too.

hello alll-

happy late bday to serenekitten. Quite a milestone within a milestone, turning 21 during your first pregnancy!

LindsC-- I am keeping up with your preterm labor stuff with interest. I have had some issues myself. Episodes of lots of contractions close together, history of preterm delivery, and now my cervix is thinning and baby's head is low. I have started seeing a perinatologist, who believes that there is nothing that you can do to prevent preterm labor. I'm not taking any drugs (except the cramp bark that my midwife suggests to calm contractions) but am going in every 2 weeks for fetal fibronectin tests-- previous 2 have been negative, I go in for my last one this week. I just want this baby to stay in so badly!

penstamom-- I am also floored that your Bradley class is focusing on things that could go wrong with homebirth. Are they not also talking about women who have been killed by epidurals? I have a friend who had to be resucitated after her epidural. And I am not sure why they would give anecdotal evidence anyhow. It is a fact that the c-section rate is lower among homebirthers, pure and simple. Most midwives have a c-section rate of 10% or less, which is way lower than any American hospital that I am aware of.

Not too much going on around here, except my preterm labor stress. My daughter is potty training, and it is going really well! It is pretty exciting, especially since I had no idea if it would happen before the new baby comes. It is a sweet feeling to think of only one in diapers.

Hello everyone!

I hope it's okay for me to join this group.
I have just joined the forum a few days ago and am looking forward to chatting with other moms whose babies are due in July. I'm Kat and I'm 26 years old, from Toronto, Ontario. My DH is 28 and we're currently expecting our first baby, due on or around July 1st. I have a feeling he will be here a few days earlier than his due date.

I look forward to getting to know everyone.
