Hi! Forgot to put up the thread this morning.

I just opened my diaper package! Fun. My first ever new diapers. I got them from Green mtn diapers. My favorites of what I got (as I can tell now) are- the prefold fitteds and the bummies covers.

I'm home! Could have discharged yesterday but wanted to stay near Julianna (we did change the spelling)... HAD to leave today, though, because I was going crazy. I need to keep busy when I'm stressed.

Mini-update:
Julianna. Is. Awesome. Oh my gawd. So tiny, so perfect. Completely a miniature version of her sisters. Healthy. We're SO lucky.

Longer-update!:
She has the tiniest little cry. Strong, but tiny! I hope the dog and cat don't think she's a rat and try to eat her.

My milk is *beginning* to come in, I THINK! And I think tomorrow we can remove the feeding tube and find out if she can swallow. Maybe even nurse?????? They will also remove her IV tomorrow morning, as she will have reached 72 hrs of age with no signs of infection and thus no 'need' for continuation of antibiotics. She is still in the incubator, but the oxygen is now turned off; she is breathing regular air.

I HATE the nursery. I hate that we don't get asked permission for anything. I hate that the doctor this morning said we could try nursing tonight but then didn't inform the night staff. I hate that when we were choosing which hospital would care for our premature infant, they didn't give us entirely true answers to our questions:
- Do you do Kangaroo Care? "Yes! [If you DEMAND it -- from the right nurse!]"
- Do you play music? "Yes! [A new CD called The Sounds of Machines Beeping and City Traffic!]"
- Do parents have 24/7 access? "Yes! [If you don't mind waiting outside for 30-60 minutes first while we do secret stuff that you can't see!]"
- Do you mix anything into the breastmilk? "No! [Except formula when you can't pump 10-15 mL of colostrum every three hours!]"

Ugh, I have no control. And also no backbone. ...I just want them to like me so they will be nice to my baby... And she'll be out of there SOON!

OH! And my husband finally worked up the courage to hold her tonight. It was beautiful; I wish I could have taken a photo (not allowed -- the one picture we do have was granted by a wonderful nurse). Julianna recognized his voice and was really trying to get a good look at his face.

She rested a while, and then I held her. She woke again and got an even better look at MY face. I think she smiled, too?!?!?!?! Twice??!!?! She is amazing to hold. She sleeps a ton in her little nest, and well, but when she fell asleep on my chest, I could tell she knew that we were back together.

Augghh, tears! She's perfect!! We are SO LUCKY!!!

...Now just trying to figure out what we need to have for her at home; we have NOTHING but a few blankets, a borrowed breastpump, and some too-large clothing and cloth diapers. And apparently preemie clothing is going to be hard to find in stores, too!

...I need a blog.

Katie: Oooh, diapers. I never realized how much I would love little fuzzy poop catchers. I love the little bummis covers too. The froggy pond print on the SWW is my favorite. I have a mystery package that arrived from cottonbabies today. I just put it under the tree for this weekend. So, I started crocheting yet another diaper soaker today. It's pretty cute so far. Planning on putting this dinosaur applique on the bottom.

aramat-so glad your DH held her. She sounds like she's doing wonderfully. Here's hoping she gets to nurse tomorrow and is a pro at it from the beginning!

Anyone started baking for the holidays yet? I'm kind of going crazy planning party food, etc. DH and I are fondue-ing by the fire for Yule tomorrow since he had to work today.

Oh hon, I'm so glad she is doing so well. It can be hard to be an advocate for your baby...but ask for what you want!

I'm going to be doing the CD, but will wait until the girls come home. they are way WAY too tiny for anything right now.

We did do some non-nutritive sucking today. I pumped so I was 'empty' and then put the girls to the breast to see what they could do. Only one at a time. Both actually 'got it' right away...rooted and grabbed hold and wow can they suck!! I felt a let down in the other breast each time, so they probably got a little something even though I had pumped first. Their nurse told me I had to do it every day so they would learn how to do it for real. Not going to stop me!!! They are far to young to really breast feed, but this gets them used to the idea...we do it when they are getting their NG feeding, so they associate being full with being at the breast. And they are just so alert with me and while they were 'nursing'. I got an hour with each one today, and it was lovely.

Christmas week, ladies! We don't celebrate, but what are everyone else's plans?

So, it happened. Stretch marks. *sigh* I knew they were coming (have had them on my breasts since I hit puberty in full force) but I was hoping they'd just wait a few more weeks so I could pretend. They're little right now, but my belly is itching like crazy! Only a matter of time now. Guess I'm earning my mom badges.

So happy that all the babies are doing so well and the mama's are getting that milk going!
Went to my 34 week appointment today. I am measuring around 37 weeks. Ehhh no wonder I feel as big as a house. Despite all the funneling and thinning of my cervix, baby boy seems to be staying put. Dr. isn't too worried about it anymore and is just having me "take it easy."
Last week, my ankles swelled up pretty bad and my blood pressure was high. This week, the swelling has almost totally gone away and my blood pressure is back to pretty much normal. MIL is out of town this week. I wonder if that has anything to do with the random lowering of blood pressure?
Busy busy with family this week. I look forward to spending time with everyone but I can't wait for it all to be over so I can go back to just focusing on growing a baby.
Katie34: Start prepping those fitted prefolds! I love the prefolds turned into fitteds. I am getting my serger this week so I will turn a dozen or so into fitteds with no closure. Just gonna use Snappi or pins.

I am so uncomfortable. I have been crampy feeling all day - not contractions, just a dull achy feeling. And pressure, like I need to go to the bathroom all the time - but then when I go to pee there is nothing. I think I'm going to call my OB if it's not better by morning...

Aramat-- I am right with you on the language and cultural barrier in the hospital. You are making me even more nervous too! I really hope we can figure out how to communicate our wishes appropriately.

Katie34-- Yay! New diapers!!! I got a huge christmas package from my parents from the states and I am pretty sure there are a bunch of diapers in there hehe I am not doing the fitteds or prefolds, I am just doing the AIOs bc I am not organized enough to do seperate covers, snaps, etc.

NicoleS- Do you think it's a UTI??? They have some odd symptoms while pregnant, like pressure, not necessarily pain.

Aramat and Zevy: I've been almost preoccupied by you guys- you come into my mind several times a day and I'm always wondering how you're doing. I'm glad you're still able to get to the computer to update.

Aramat: I know it is so hard to do what they want you to do in the hospital. I guess you just have to get through it and realize it will only last a short while, then you get to take her home! I felt so annoyed in the hospital last time- criticisms about my milk not coming in fast enough, DD not latching, pushing formula, etc. etc. I was successful in the end, but in spite of the nurses in the hospital. I had to get a lactation consultant at home. Oh, and I DID end up supplementing at the beginning b/c of jaundice and I think we probably kept her from being re-admitted. It all worked out in the end but it was sooo frustrating and I resented the interference. I'm glad your DH held Juilana. It's all so exciting!

On CD- I feel like such a failure right now. I want to buy some more soon, but I'm scared to use ours currently since our washing machine is on its last leg. The door falls off half of the time! I just need to get through the next few months b/c I can't afford a new machine and the laundromats are unbelievably expensive here ($30 + a week is not something I can budget for either). I suppose the bright side is that she will need the diapers long after we move from this house and hopefully get into a place where the landlord owns the washing machine (and will fix/replace it if it breaks!).

Maybe...though I don't know where I'd have gotten one from. We haven't DTD, I drink tons of water, wear cotton undies, etc...I called my OB this morning. I took a LONG bath last night which helped with the cramping, but I'm still peeing like every 20 minutes, and feeling like I have to pee after I go. Waiting to hear back from him to see what he thinks.

Aramat: So glad she's doing well!! Glad you're home, and I hope she latches right on. Sorry about the bad NICU nurses.

Zevy: Hooray for milk going straight into babies! It's sounds sort of dumb online, but I'm thrilled for you.

Lauren: Now *I'm* excited for you to open your Christmas box. Clothies are so much fun!

Nicole: Let us know how you are feeling. Thinking of you.

Ambystoma: My DD and I did some baking yesterday. Coffee chip almond cookies and maple fudge. I let her unwrap a gift early, which was cute little aprons I'd made matching for me, her, and her favorite baby doll. Mine even tied around my big ole' bump, and she looked adorable in hers. (The doll hasn't tried hers on yet because she got accidently left at Nana's on Sunday. Boy am I getting lobbied hard to drive over and get her too!) Today I think we may make peppermint meringues.

You feeling any better, mama? I had that same feeling when I was around 5 1/2 months. Tons of pressure (hurt when I walked), felt a couple of trickles of something coming out of me, peeing quite a often, but the trickle is what brought me to go to the hospital and sure enough, I had a UTI.

UTI's can happen when we don't depsoit the urine 100% each time we go pee. That's what the nurse told me. And since we're going so often these days, that can certainly happen.

The cramping is better, but not the need to pee. Still waiting for my OB to call me back. I have to go out today to do grocery shopping anyways, so I can always stop down there and pee in a cup for them...I suppose the not depositing 100% could be an issue...between baby being down there and everything else I could see it being harder to totally empty the bladder...but gee whiz. I only get UTIs when pregnant and for some reason this pregnancy I've gotten them worse than others...it would be nice if I knew why so I could stop it. I even started taking cranberry supplements and those don't seem to help.

I am so glad all the babies are doing so well. Mamas, take care of yourselves, your are both so amazing!

Katie - yay! I love new diapers. (Un)fortunately my stash is pretty much set for now - so no fluffy mail or purchases for a while until the baby is bigger and we know what we want more of.

I am wrapping up my work week - half day today and tomorrow and then I don't come back until Tuesday. Woohoo! I don't even have any work to take home with me.

I am still conflicted about holiday plans. I am estranged from my bio-dad (that is probably a stronger word that I am looking for, but we don't see each other much) and he just called to see if I could come see him and his family at some point and I'm not sure what I will do about that.

I have had a little stress in the last 2 days and it is amazing how much my body/uterus/baby reacts to that! My stress really isn't even that big either- it is just that I had painters come here today and deciding colors and just- making decisions about house stuff is always really hard for me- just in terms of spending money and getting things right and all.
It is just crazy how much I felt like- woah, this stress is not good for baby or me at all! It makes me feel really grateful that I have not been feeling too stressed generally. Because when I started stressing over these things I just felt this yucky feeling in my body and a little crampy and stuff. blech!

Well, it looks like I have yet another UTI. On antibiotics again, and my OB sent my urine out for a culture. He said that if it is the same bacteria as before we may want to consider a low dose antibiotic for the rest of the pregnancy to prevent the recurrences...

Hi, everybody! Hugs all around, and thanks again and again for the well-wishes!

Julianna drank from a cup this morning! She can swallow! AND she was SUCKING ON THE CUP! So that was a big high for us. And we could tell she was getting hungry, because she was ROOTING!

Then when I saw her tonight, she was on the lights for jaundice (for the first time). AUGH. Another worry and a low--every non-positive feels like being stabbed. My husband wasn't with me to translate, so all I know right now is "medium" jaundice. But I'm sure she's fine. Will find out more in the morning (numbers?). The morning staff is way better than the night staff. Except the one cool night staff nurse, who wasn't there tonight.

But she's great. She's so great and so great to hold and I just want to bring her HOME!

My milk is IN; Julianna received nothing but breastmilk today, and she even has enough in storage for feedings through noon tomorrow. Considering that yesterday I was still sometimes getting *one drop* through the pump and down to the bottom of a bottle...this feels REALLY good. C'mon, milk; let's knock-out some jaundice!

Premature baby clothes. Impossible to find. Socks? Hats? Nada. Grr. Found a few sleepers. Not even gowns.

Pumping is as hard as I remember. I can't seem to empty my breasts with the pump and am constantly having to massage to avoid clogged ducts on the sides. I'm not great at hand-expressing, either. I need a BABY to nurse; I can't figure out how to concentrate on certain areas of the breast with a pump.

We're still shocked that we had the baby. And stressed, so stressed. Wow, this is hard!
