Just wondering how everybody's doing in the weight gain department? I gained 45 pounds with my first and only lost about 20 of it. I gained 20 with my second and then lost the leftover from the first (well, most of it ). I'm 16 weeks and I have gained 1-2 pounds and I'm happy about that, but also a little worried. Should I have gained more by now? My belly and boobs feel so big! I am more physically active this pregnancy, so that might have something to do with it. I've also recently gotten a huge appetite back and I feel like I'm hungry all the time (and eating almost all the time).

My midwife doesn't really track weight but I do! LOL! I've gained 4 and I am 15 weeks tomorrow. Most of it in the last month because when I weighed at 12 weeks I'd only gained .6 lbs. It's probably because I am now also starting to get my appitite back.

I've gained a whopping 10 pounds already!! But I was really thin before, so the extra weight is good for me!

I think it's going to be different for everyone. I just eat well and don't worry about whether my weight is up or down

I think I've gained about 5 pounds and I'm 14 weeks. This is my first and I'm actually surprised at how inactive I've been in the first trimester. I am usually quite active but I just got back to the gym last week after having been gone for about 7 weeks! As well... veggies aren't really my friend... I'm eating tons of fruit but I find myself eating more processed foods than normal in order to get my calorie intake and the vitamins I need in a day.

My energy level has certainly increased over the last 2 weeks so I'm hoping that my appetite for good whole foods will come shortly.

I'm 17 weeks and have put on about 2-3 pounds. I gained almost 50 pounds with my first (half my body weight!!), but didn't start packing those on until late 2nd, early 3rd trimester. I'm guessing the same will happen this time.

I don't think you should worry about your weight gain yet. It's still very early and babies don't start really taking off in the growth department until 20 weeks or so.

I gained 7, lost 9, gained the 9 back, so I'm 7 pounds over pre-pregnancy. And I gained all those 9 pounds most recently in the last week or so! I'm 14.5 weeks now. I was thin-to-average when I started out, though. I've given up regulating my body weight, it just will do what it wants. Unless I eat a lot when I'm not hungry, then I can't force myself to gain weight.

I haven't gained anything yet at 15 weeks. I'm already overweight as it is, so I'm not worried if I don't gain anything for a while. I have plenty stored up for this little one

with my first pregnancy, i didn't start gaining weight until well over 20 weeks.

this one, i gained 3 lbs between 8 and 12 weeks. i'm 14 weeks the end of this week and i think i'm still gaining, albeit slowly. i did gain aobut 15-20 lbs in the few months before getting pregnant, so i won't be surprised if i don't gain much again until over 20 weeks.

I am so stressing about this today!

I'm up 7lbs from pre preggo (albeit post-Holiday )weight. I am really worried about this (not all the time though, I think its b/c I weighed myself this morning and gained a pound since last week) because of several things;
#1 I had lost 50Lbs over the course of a year or so, by watching my weight and excersising. I hit my healthy BMI over last summer, then slid a bit (8ish Lbs) over the Holiday season. (which IMO is totally normal) Since I can't "diet" while pg I couldn't loose those Chirstmas Lbs. That freaks me out a bit and I'm not likeing what the scale is saying.
#2 I'm worried that part of why I'm so upset by it is b/c the mainsteam media IMO is very um, strict/unrealistic/??? about weight gain during and loss during and after pg. Literally this has me worried every time I go for a snack b/c I'm hungry! I'm trying to make the right choices (which was a big part of how I lost that weight) but the guilt involved in grabbing a handful of Cadbury Mini-Eggs (looooove those things) or a 1/2-3/4cup of ice cream is just wrenching me today-even though I halled my arse to the gym for 55 minutes of cardio today.
#3 I have my mini-chart from my last pg and I can compare my weight between that one and this one (even though I started about 30Lbs heavier then) and as a matter of fact I had lost weight at my second visit with both girls but this time I gained....ARGH

With my first I gained around 35ish Lbs with my second I gained around 30. I hope to gain around 25 or 30 this time but I really feel sort of out of control with it.

I've pretty much resigned myself to trying to make the best food choices I can and try and not worry so hard about the wieght. I've lost it before and I can do it again. Today is just a bad day for me and the weight worry...

10 lbs so far at least & i don`t care at all! As long as everybody`s OK, I love getting bigger. I gained 40, 35, and 70 lbs in the past & lost it each time with breastfeeding & walking.

heather: sad that you are having a hard time with this right now... if it's any consolation, i was just reading a book by sheila kitzinger called ourselves as mothers and she mentions that in jamaica, it is a high compliment from friends when they say "you be gettin' fat!" to a pregnant woman. it is very much a cultural thing, and it sounds like you worked so hard to get fit and healthy, i can only begin to imagine the feelings that must be cropping up now that you are growing again. just remember: it's good for your little babe in your belly.

I have gained about 9 pounds (am 26 weeks today) and I'm really not worried about how much I gain. I figure my body will do what it needs to to keep baby healthy! As long as I'm not eating a bunch of junk, I'm not worried, and neither is my midwife!

I gained 50 with my first and lost 60 in a matter of months. (Not good, I was underweight to begin with).
25 with my second and lost about 17 of it.

And so far I've gained 15 lbs.
I have no idea how that happened, since I'm barely eating and have the same diet and exercise routine as I did with my second! It's not showing. I don't *look* any bigger except my uterus is poking out and pretty huge already. So, I dunno!

In the first trimester (up until 14 weeks), average weight gain is anywhere from 2-5 pounds. But as is reflected in everyone's answers, some underweight people gain more, and overweight less. There is also much normal variation with people in a healthy weight range... a lot can be said for just eating and drinking and exercising as you feel and trusting your body to do what it does.

That being said, I've gained like 9 pounds at 13 weeks!
