Hi, did weight watchers after first son weaned himself at 18mos and loved it. Lost all my remaining postpartum pudge. Wanting to start earlier this time -but at 2 mos does it make sense to even think about the extra 20 lbs am carting around? I don't want to endanger how well my milk supply is in this time. Last time I didn't even think about getting back to normal as it was a constant battle for milk since my first son was 5 weeks early. Anyways anyone done a good program like WW so early in the life of your little nursling?? I think WW is just sensible and not really a "diet" per se but should I do anything when ds #2 is so little?

Funny you should post this! I just got back from weighing in! Proud to say I lost 4.2 pounds!!

I love WW for loosing the post baby weight. They have the great advantage that they work with the nursing mom by giving her extra point to support the babys intake of calories. I would try it out for a few weeks and just see how many points you are currently eating and see where you stand. You may find that you are not that far off from the points allowed and you can loose the few extra points pretty easy.

Good luck and enjoy the baby and the WW group you find!!

Come join us over in the WW group too!!

Funny I was just about to join the online WW, and it said that it's NOT okay for BFing mamas.....but I know many around here that are doing it and they do like smlweiber said (congrats on the 4.2 lbs!) and add an extra point or two i think it was.

my DS is almost 8mos and I can't wait to start. I'll join your group, too

Thanks for the post! When did you start back at WW though? My new lil' guy is just 2mos old. I am ready but do you think it is too soon? Also see that you have all boys-so do we now, two sons. They are great but boy you would think the weight would just melt away chasing just the older one around
: With two I should be in great shape!! I will check in with you all at the WW Group once I sign up again...

You cannot do Weight Watchers Online while breastfeeding for some bizarre reason, but you can do either the meetings or Weight Watchers at Home. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the latter; it wasn't that long ago that only the meetings were for nursing moms, according to their website (I looked into it after having Linda). I have the @Home kit, and it is well worth the cost.

hhhmmm, well I signed up online anyway (one of my neighbors has lost 25 lbs so far and she was BFing and did the online version, we just lied!).....maybe they just want to be able to monitor you b/c of milk supply?

I paid 65 for 3 months. what does your @home kit include? and how much was it? how is it different than the online one? did you have to go to a mtg? i wonder if i do online, i can't go to a mtg...not sure.
sorry, i just started today and am FULL of questions

Yay thanks ladies for the replies. I am going to at least go to a meeting and see what my old coach says. I find that the meetings worked best for me. Love the point system. We eat healthy anyways but I really don't need to keep eating like I am pregnant or like an Italian man (my husband) as far as portions go. Am doing great w/BF this time. My second came out of the womb ready to nurse for sure. Milk is awesome so I think I will give it a whirl. I feel so not myself and the extra weight is pulling on my back. Hope you all are doing well. I think I will check in with WW group when I sign up.

My doc told me it's okay to diet while BF but that it's not okay to loose more than 1-1&1/2 lbs a week because of harmful ketones that are released into your blood & milk when you burn a lot of fat. These ketones are toxic to a baby.

You get an extra 10 points--approximately 500 calories--while nursing. Weight Watchers is a very low-calorie diet. Each point is the approximate equivalent of 50 calories. Without the extra points for nursing, I'd be at about 1200 calories a day; this is the bare minimum to consume when it comes to safety and proper nutrition, totally aside from breastfeeding. (Weight Watchers bottoms out at 900 calories/day!)

I don't know exactly how the online program differs from the @Home program, since I've never used the online version. My @Home kit--I paid for the deluxe version--came with the comprehensive points book, the eating out version, a subscription to the magazine, a points slide, a points calculator/log, a pedometer, a cookbook, a QuickStart guide, and a bunch of handouts. Oh, & an activity points finder, the dry-erase tracker, a diary, and an exercise DVD. Including the rush shipping we paid for, it was about $150. I think it was well worth it, since I can basically use it forever & share it with DH & even give it to someone else once I'm done with it.

I did the WW Core plan when dd was 6m and lost 18 pounds. The doctor recommended this over the regular points system becuased it stressed eating healthy, whole foods and did not limit calories (just goes based on your sensation of feeling "full"). As a nursing mom they also allowed a tablespoon of olive oil per day plus an extra 5 points per day for extras. It is such a great way to focus on healthy eating instead of dieting. I have just started it again to loose a little more before TTC #2.

I would highly recommed the core.
