I think this might be just from the ab muscles stretching (or separating, hopefully not too much!) but the top of my abs (so right at the top of the uterus) and right in the middle have felt very odd the last two days - almost like they have a sunburn on the inside. Its not *sore* exactly, but just like a stinging/burning sensation. My husband (the more worrywart of us) wants me to call and ask but its not super painful, just odd - I was just wondering is this normal? I'm guessing since the baby (I think) is sideways, there's just more pressure pulling the ab muscles apart. Although this is above where the baby is I guess, so maybe not.

when i do the ab separation test, its hard to tell, right there (the very top of the abs) it seems like I'm about 1 or 2 fingerwidths of separation, which seems somewhat normal, I'm guessing?

Could it be heartburn? I get this weird burning, stinging feeling, sometimes accompanied by pressure, at the top of my abdomen, right under my sternum...but I have a really short torso, so maybe we are talking about different locations.

no, I definitely know heartburn
this is very *non* organ related, it really feels like the edge of the muscles right under the skin are burning a bit. I guess a little like its sore, but in a much more stingy way than I am used to sore muscles feeling like! I keep trying to google search for it but because of the key words I keep coming across UTI articles!

I'm feeling that, too--I was thinking it's my skin being stretched beyond capacity
It's really annoying though, and constant. It's less when I lie down, which is another reason I assumed it is the weight of my belly pulling on my skin--it doesn't hurt when my tummy is supported by pillows/mattress.

aha! its less when I lay down too, so maybe that is it. Its odd that im not feeling it at the widest part of me I guess, but maybe the skin is more sensitive in this particular place. Ill ask the ob/gyn about it next week to make sure.

I've been feeling this too, it's one spot and almost feels like a rug burn or irritation from rubbing against my clothes. My midwife said probably the muscles separating a little bit and skin stretching. My lo is also laying somewhat sideways or diagonally (head at my hip, butt/feet at opposite ribs). My sides also feel stretched and relieved when my belly is supported, but the sensation at the top of my abs is very much like you described. I got a support band at the consignment store the other day but my intentions were for wearing it when I run my dogs in agility this weekend, but maybe I should try it throughout the day too??

my lo is laying very similarly! the head is partly down, but butt up under my ribs on the other side. Although just today something has shifted a bit, I'm having more pressure feelings lower and less of the rugburn effect, so I think you are right, its skin/muscle stretching. It does feel like rugburn, almost exactly!

I am going to look into a support band too I suppose. Its odd, I'm not very big actually (I feel way smaller than 33wks looks on others, and others mention it as well) so I never thought to get a support band but if it helps the rugburn feeling I'm all for it!

although w/ the shift as of today, its feeling much better. I think the babe is still sideways-ish, but a bit more up and down than yesterday. This is the first time I'm actually happy to have some bladder pressure!

I just logged on to find out about exactly this. My prenatal books talk about itchy abdomen, but mine is definitely burning. It is sort of in one spot right at the top of my belly and a little to the right. I think my baby is also laying in the same position you described. I experienced this with my first baby also, but this time it seems a lot more intense. I'm 32 weeks, and a fairly small person, so I feel big, but I'm not as big as some people get.

Anyway, I feel sure it's just stretching - but I'm really looking for something to relieve the pain! I put lotion on it all the time, but if it is more the muscles inside than the skin, that isn't really helping I guess. Lying down helps, but I can't do that all the time!

Any recommendations for oils or exercises or something?

yeah, I don't think lotion or anything helps me either since its certainly on the inside. I wore a bella band yesterday which seemed to help, and then today I think the babe has moved a LOT and so now its completely gone! Mine was also right at the top of my belly, tho not to any particular side.

but beyond getting the babe to move, not sure what one can do! I think a support band might be worth trying, I can't tell how much that helped or if the babe had already partially shifted relieving the feeling.
