Weird and wonderful pregnancy!

438 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Surfacing
So, I just noticed that the hair on my legs is growing in thinner and slower. Yay!! This happened with my first pregnancy too.

My sense of smell is still super human.

My hips + pelvis kill. I'm seeing a chiro starting monday.

My emotions are so full I can almost grab them long enough to ring their neck out. Do I really need to tear up at songs on the radio or silly commercials?

What strange pregnancy side effects have you been gifted?! The good the bad and the just plain weird! Do share!

The superhuman sense of smell thing is still a problem for me too...So much so that even though I am basicaly past the whole ms/ads stuff I still cannot walk into a grocery store without gaging the whole time and getting lightheaded. There are just too many smells in there. For that same reason I cannot eat in a resturant. I can do a drive thru if the line is short and air is on recirc!
My leg hair grows in thiner and slower as well...If only my pits would do that too!

Also really emotional, I'm talking semi touching moments in Vegi-Tales make me well up...insane!
My own heater is working well too. We don't run the heat at night, so the house drops to 50f or so and I comfortably sleep in a tank top&shorts, under a sheet (ocasionally a light blanket) with my arms on top..For comparison Dh and I usually are on the same page temp-wise but he has on t-shirt and sweatpants, sheet, blanket, down comforter and a heavy quilt!!
My chiro is an hour and a halfaway
otherwise I would be seeing him very soon too. I am re-reading Relieving Pelvic Pain Durring and After Pregnancy and trying to re-re-train my self on the best ways to sit/stand/sleep/move to keep me as stable as possible as long as possible.

Mine too! How bizarre, but fabulous!

Sorry to hear that! I had alot of hip pain towards the end last pregnancy. Not looking forward to that returning

I'm always emotional but it's crazy now. I'm either so ecstatic being in the company of DS and DH or I want to scream at them.
I am furry--by heredity, yes, but right now it's downright ridiculous. I start itching if I don't shave under my arms every freaking day.

My Vulcan-like emotional control is kaput.

My sense of smell is thankfully receding a bit.

I started getting round ligament pain REALLY early, and now on occasion my ligaments yell at me, trying to tell me, "oh, you THOUGHT you were going to roll over/sneeze/use the toilet but we've got other plans!" Swearing usually takes care of things (because it comes on so suddenly otherwise).

I have a new superpower, eating a ton of cereal and drinking tons of milk! I think I am addicted.

I don't understand why everyone's hair is growing slower, I think mine is growing faster! Maybe it's just because it's winter and I don't actually pay attention...or shave much. My hair (on my head) is nice though! It's been soft and friendly. Not rude like usual.

I also cry at the lamest things. Not commercials, yet, but dumb TV shows. Anything cute my dd does almost makes me choke up, or when she gets really upset. That's normal, but it's much worse now.

Oh, and watch out mood swings! Yikes!

I fell asleep watching LOST. We love that show, have no idea what happened! I sleep too much...or not enough and then fall asleep when I want to stay awake.

I do feel like I am in a creative slump, not sure if it's pregnancy related though. I am having a hard time being inspired to create new pieces of work. Not good! I just want to think about babies.

Oh, one more! I went to have a dental cleaning yesterday and bled like a stuck pig. I think I have some kind of pregnancy onset gingivitis. I will probably be investing in a waterpic soon. She said it will help a lot. Yuck!!!!

Other than feeling like my stomach muscles and skin are stretching, and I have to more actively engage my pelvic floor muscles when I get up or sit down ("yes my Midwife, I'm being a good girl and following your suggestions"), I've been a little bit emotional but not too bad.

The one thing I'm having big problems with right now is the motivation to be working full-time while my head is daydreaming in the clouds, thinking of all the things I need to do to get ready for this baby, all the changes that are going to come financially and otherwise. I feel like I need to be here, at home, nesting, not behind a desk and travelling in the subway for an hour each way everyday. Grumble grumble.

Hair! Hairs growing where?!?! Man hair on my chin?!?! W.T.H.?!?! Can you get electrolysis whilst pregnant?

And don't get me started on inheriting my FATHER'S unibrow....ugh

I normally have thick head hair, not necessarily the most wonderful thing like shampoo ads would have you believe, and lately my hair hurts...well scalp/follicles hurt. Is it really growing that fast that it hurts?

Pregnant Woman Super Sniffer--I haz it! Bad thing when my part time job is working in a group home and 3 of the 4 communal restrooms are right next to the staff desk/med cabinet, and no vents/fans in said restrooms. :barf:

HOWEVER~
DH has superman hearing, and nightly he lays his head on my belly and listens to baby's heartbeat and taps out the rhythm with his finger on my hand. I don't need a doppler
DH cuddles my belly right before we fall asleep, and it is my favorite part of the day. He gets the bonding time, and I get the reassurance.

I find all the weird little things that come with pregnancy so intriguing!! I mean mood swings, yes, pretty standard - hip pain and ligament stretching common as well, but still annoying.

BUT - the chin hair thing - I have it too! Yuck... Last pregnancy, I had a wart on the bottom of my foot that I could not get rid of (hadn't tried anything severe/dr.'s office), but it just randomly fell off when I was pregnant. This time, a mole I had on my ribcage dried up and fell off too. Odd.
And though I'm not one for food cravings, I ate a whole jar of artichoke hearts yesterday and were so sad when they were gone...

Keep these weird things coming - I love to read about them!!
Definitely the super human smell. Wasn't so bad the first time around. The weirdest thing about this pregnancy is how often I don't feel pregnant. With my son I was sick and swollen and achy and miserable the whole time. This time I just feel good. Now that the nausea is gone the only real symptom I have is how tired I get.

Wow, that is so amazing!!! I had been feeling what I thought was kicking but it was a strong pulse on my stomach. Was wondering what that was all about until my MW discovered I have a big anterior placenta... so THAT is what is making my heart beat into my stomach all the time!
I wonder if that's what your dh is hearing too... your blood pulsing to/through your placenta? Just a thought. ???

OMG ewww I totally get you!
With each pregnancy actually I've found some new moles/skin tags popping up in strange places like my armpit. WTH is that all about? Today one of the skin tags turned brown and fell off. EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!
(Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
