... starts with a tickle in the throat, then a little hoarseness, then a spasm-like cough, then horrible aches and chills and sweats (almost like the flu) and a horrible swollen and sore throat and very loud noise ringing in the ears.

any one else have this?

it's awful. I went to the dr. on Monday because I couldn't stand another night of NO sleep!!! They thought it was a sinus infection. Taking care of 4 kids, 2 who are also sick, is so frustrating with no sleep - my patience is completely worn out. So I went on antibiotics, and after two days so far, I feel only mildly better. Nothing seems to really wipe it out and make it go away.

And DS, 14m, will only sleep latched on, and If I dare move, forget it!

i am feeling the exact same way. and my DD, who is 16 months old, is doing the same thing with sleeping latched on. aaaaaaaah! i haven't been taking anything for it, hoping it's just a cold and will go away, but it won't quit! i feel like my upper half is just buried in phlegm.

tonight when DS is acting like he's stapled to your breast, you feel like your ears are going to explode, and you're too afraid to cough in case it wakes him up, at least you know that you are not alone. feel better soon!

that's exactly it! The coughing is constantly waking him (and me!) up - I've tried everything from rescue remedy to honey to all the otc stuff. Next step is a big glass of wine or nyquil. yuck.

Yes, we're sick here in RI too but it's not too bad. I did a garlic infusion and made garlic lemonade. I actually think it works better than antibiotics for respitory infections. That and chicken soup. My kids really like tea too so that helps. It's the crankiness I can't take much more of. Luckily ds #2 is pretty much weaned cause those marathon nursing nights are just insanity! Hope everyone feels better soon!

The wine doesn't sound too bad- but ick to NQ....

hope you feel better soon

I think DD has this as well- she was up all night with coughing fits and wanting to nurse and getting fusterated (now that I think of it- maybe a glass of wine early evening would have helped me get through the night
)

I wonder about trying a little wine - it's been so long, it would only take a sip to go right to my head... It's so frustrating because the headache medicines all contain caffeine, so I had a strong cup of espresso this morning instead, but I don't want caffeine at night, but my headaches are insane, so I'm up anyways, but up in pain... thank goodness for reruns at 2 am!

Has anyone tried wine at night while nursing? My nurslings are 15m and 2.5y, so it's mainly the 15m who nurses all night long. I wonder if it would help both of us.

fwiw- since I'm not a wine expert, are there better kinds than others? like organic, or healthier? I'm not a big fan of anything too bitter, but do like the taste of the sweet after dinner wines. Are there additives or chemicals to look out for?

Ugh, that sounds like what I have. I had a little tickle and a mild cold for a week. Then I was feeling better, and WHAM!!! I got knocked down by a hacking cough/sneezing/runny nose. I went to the doctor today and she says it's an infection, so I'm on antibiotics now. I've never had an infection like this before. It's awful, especially while pregnant!

Gah, I am at the point where if I try to sleep, I wake up hacking to death within 30 minutes! I thought I was going to vomit from all the coughing spasms. And I felt like I couldn't get any air to breathe. Happened 3 times, so now I've given up and am staying up for a little while. NOT FUN!

I should be getting better by now!!

I had this for literally 3+ weeks, I promise it does go away. I rarely go to the MD for anything but had just had it long enough to start to wonder when it FINALLY left, mostly that is. I'll still cough once a day or so but I promise it WILL get better. Many many huge hugs......luckily DD1 didn't get anything and DD2 just had the cough part of it and nothing else. DH got over it in about a week so there is hope for a quicker recovery!
