ds is 13 months old. one day this past week i woke up to very sore nipples. i have never had nipple soreness with ds - even in the beginning. since then they have been sore on and off this whole week. i just nurse through the pain. also - my boobs are filling up more too - like in the beginning when he was a babe. today i woke up engorged (not fully but enough to throw him on the boob to help me out!)

is this a weird milk supply changing thing? i've gone through something like this before with him when he was around 6 months maybe. or maybe the return of af?

right now - my boobs just feel "fuller". he doesn't nurse to much during the day but i am waiting for him to wake up so i can nurse him!

thanks!

pregnancy crossed my mind yesterday. we co-sleep and dh isn't one for "out of bedroom" sex but there was one night weeks ago when there was noone in between us
hubba hubba since af hasn't returned - i have noone idea what is what. also - since i still nurse on demand i thought i was kinda safe.

oh well - i'll keep you posted. i'll take a test next week when i get back from vacation (if i can wait that long!)

I would take a test. That sounds like pg symptoms to me.

I got pregnant with my almost 1 year old when I was still nursing. Dh had been working out of town for a while and he was FINALLY back. LOL we really missed each other. I had my cycles back by then, but I was just so busy, I didn't even realize that I was about 2 weeks late. I woke up one morning and I was like "gosh my boobs are sore!" They felt really full. All of the sudden I sat up in bed and tried to remember when my last period was. I couldn't figure it out. Needless to say I packed up all of my kiddos and headed out to the store for a test.
LOL I about fell on the floor.

So did dh!
:

Go get a test...tell us what it says!!!

Good Luck!

Why did you think you were safe? Are you cycling?

Usually, the first menstrual period is anovulatory, but that leaves you with a chance of getting pg before a period, however small (5% when baby is 6 mos, and yours is 12 mos). Read this:

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/normal/fertility.html

Quote:
Breastfeeding frequency may be the strongest factor leading to the return of fertility: you are more likely to see the return of fertility if baby is going more than 6 hours without nursing at night or more than 4 hours without nursing during the day.
Nighttime nursing can be a big factor: if your baby begins sleeping through the night, the return of fertility becomes more likely.
One study has shown that separation from your infant (for example, if you work but continue to provide 100% breastmilk for baby) might increase your risk of pregnancy.
The introduction of solid food can also be a major factor in the return of fertility. Once your baby starts solids (if your cycles have not returned), you can prolong your natural period of infertility by breastfeeding before offering solids, starting solids gradually, and not restricting night nursing.
You can achieve higher effectiveness by practicing ecological breastfeeding:

keeping baby close
nursing on cue
nursing at night
using nursing to comfort your baby
nursing in a lying-down position for naps and at night
using no bottles or pacifiers
If you practice ecological breastfeeding:

Chance of pregnancy is practically zero during the first three months, less than 2% between 3 and 6 months, and about 6% after 6 months (assuming mom's menstrual periods have not yet returned).

I got pregnant with my second when my first was 6 months. If you are not ready for another yet you can not rely on the fact you are exclusively breastfeeding and haven't returned to your cycle yet.

Your pain does sound like pregnancy to me. Take a test to ease your mind so if it is something else you can take care of it. Thrush sucks.

DaryLLL-my pain is sharp and only in my nipple. could i still have thrush after all this time and do you know how I could get rid of it?

Thanks-not meaning to interupt the thread

It could be the return of your cycle, too. When mine returned, my nipples were on fire at ovulation time!!! I started taking evening primrose oil and it's soooo much better (it happened monthly until someone here told me about epo). Just a thought other than it being pregnancy.

Yeah, this happened to me when I first ovulated (before my first ppaf--knew I ovulated cuz I was charting).

The next cycle I took a magnesium supplement, and I still had the discomfort, but it was much less.

I am not too sure about taking EPO with nursing. Hale's didn't really give it a green light.

bummer
although i wouldn't have wanted my babes so close in age - i would have loved to be pg. dh doesn't want another "natural" one - he wants to adopt (which is what i want too) but i want 4 and he is kinda okay with 3.

boobs are still larger than before though - maybe its af. we'll see!
