My 14mo has been experimenting with utensils. He will scream and rage at you if you dont let him try
I gently tried guiding the fork into his mouth but he wouldn't let me. He gets the food on the fork with no problem, holds the fork up like he's going to put it in his mouth, then uses his free hand to take the food off the fork and put it in his mouth

That is exactly the way my 14 month old uses a fork! He is a like a Rube Goldberg machine. He likes to make eating as many steps as possible. It cracks me up. The spoon on the other hand he gets right in there, with the most intense concentration he dips it and then slowly oh so slowly brings the yogurt to his mouth. Then he reaches in with his hand to push the yogurt in further

Then there's the phase of:

pick up food with hand
put it on fork or spoon
bring utensil to mouth
help food get into mouth with hands
